Commercial Description:
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum. O.G. 1.072 84.2 IBU

Dark copper with red hues large tan head. Malty sweet citrusy IPA like aroma. Great hops presence, lets you know its there. Excellent hops malt combination as the malt fights to make it presence known as well. Dry and bitter with a nutty finish. Aftertaste is unsweetened grapefruit. Fabulous American Strong.

From a bottle poured dark amber with a fair amount of head. Nice malty/hoppy flavor with a smooth finish.

Amber in color with thin white head. Pleasant prominent grapefruit hop aroma. Taste is clean even hop bitterness that sticks to the palate long after the apparent finish. $3/12oz

At the Vintage Estates Octoberfest beer tasting. A little darker than pale yellow with some hints of orange and brown in there. Very nice attractive mild sweet perfumy hops aroma. Smells much better than most strong lagers I’ve had the chance of smelling. First taste is like an IPA but is not overpowering. Barely any carbonation. Not too bad for a strong lager, The alky content is well heidden. One of the better brews that I have tasted from Lagunitas. Finish is medium lingering bitterness that hangs for a while. If I didn’t look at the style on this site, I would have guessed this was IPA.

One of my favorite beers form this company, nice and thick with a perfect mount of hops to counteract the malt.

Lots of sweet fruity malt in the aroma but much more balance in the taste. A bold beer! Flavor has hints of an IPA with potent hops and pine flavors. But there are also plenty of malts with caramel and fruit. Feel is silky smooth. Lots of warming alcohol and a unique dark fruit bitterness. This is anything but subtle and is quite delicious.

Clear orange/copper color with a small head. Good lacing. Aroma of citrus and sweet tropical fruit. Taste is pine and citrus hops with some caramel sweetness, bordering on brown sugar. A little ’bite’ on the tongue, but it stops well short of being bitter. Fairly dry finish. A very well done American hop vehicle.

Clear dark amber with good rich head. Grapefruit, pine, and caramel. Hops dominate. Alcohol makes its presence right before the strong bitter finish. Medium to full body.
