Commercial Description:
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum. O.G. 1.072 84.2 IBU

12 oz - Dark shiny copper, lightly tanned thin foamy head (great lacing). Nose has deep citric hop swirls, light florals, pine, and earth, with soft undertones of toasty sweet caramel. Slightly bready to boot. Flavor is similar, bitter up front, with a light sweet malt backbone rounding it out. Medium bodied with light carbonation, drying, bittersweet finish. This would make a nice regular in the firdge if Lagunitas ever chose MD for distribution....hint hint.....

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized beige head, moderate lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel, floral, pine, and citrus hops. Flavor is citrus, hops, caramel, malt, touch of alcohol. Palate is medium with a moderate amount of carbonation, IPA like finish. Pretty darn good.

O.G. 1.072, 40.63 IBU, 7.6% ABV... Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale pours a hazy dark copper color with a large foamy and puffy light orange head. The head slowly collapses and leaves a thin off-white crown that lastes until the very last drink. There is also a decent amount of lacing. The aroma is malty and dominated by aged candied orange and pineapple. There is a stong orange and pine hoppiness up front and then the flavor reveals some caramel malt and alcohol. The finish is piney, grassy, moderately bitter, and slightly dry. This beer has a medium body and is very creamy. Overall I thought that this was a solid beer with a controlled bitterness. Good, but not quite as good as some of the other Lagunitas offerings that I’ve tried recently. 22 oz bottle from Belmont Party Supply.

Bottle... Clear orange ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Hoppy nose with notes of grapefruit, pine, leather and an afterthought of gooey caramel. The flavor pretty well matches the nose. The fruit and candy are there along with medium to heavy bitterness and a pinch of salt. Full-bodied and astringent with moderate carbonation. Lengthy, bitter-sweet, dry finish. Thanks to jimbowood for shipping me this bottle!

Pours copper with a thin beige head. Has a pleasant aroma of fruits, caramel, vanilla and malts. Flavor and palate both were flat. Seems to be missing that smooth, creamy palate. Noticable flavors of malts, hop, citrus and pine.

Courtesy of TBC2. 12 oz bottle: poured dark orange with virtually no head even after a semi-aggressive pour. The beer is too cold presently. After warming up, it pours a medium sized off white head. Moderate caramel and fairly big hop aroma. Massive bitterness in the finish with mild metallic notes. Decent but I need some sweet malts.

Bottle thanks to Goldtwins. Pours an amber red with a thick off white head. aromas of citrusy and piney hops. Was expecting a little more malt, but i was not disappointed with what I got. Rich hop flavor balanced by a caramely maltyness. Smooth bitterness throughout with slightly thick, resiny mouthfeel. Very good beer. The Imperial Red name throws off what I was expecting, but it still delived!
