WeeHeavySD (2942), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 6, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a small but frothy head. The scent is malty and sweet. The taste is very malty and rich, and drinkable. Unlike other red’s I’ve had it is a bit sweeter than most and has a fine smooth malty finish. Yum! trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Sep 5, 2006 A thick, heavy, barleywine-type strong ale. Mahogany pour with a negligible head. Heavy leather, bread, and malt in the aroma. Typical Lagunitas sticky, sugary-sweet taste up front. More hops than their Hairy Eyeball offering, but very similar. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 4, 2006 Big hops grapefruit fresh cut fields and alky aroma. Semitransluctent reddish amber with reigh size beige suds. Redfunk flavor- big malty balls, IPA like, citrus hops cut with leather shoes, best ruddy malt. good finish not all that imperial like, more a good IPA, except it did make me more woozy than I thought it would. Stealth imperial. fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA Aug 25, 2006 This offering from Lagunitas delivers a maroon foggy body with a creamy tan head that disappears quickly. The aroma is west coast hops, herbal, sweet, baked cookies, and a promising caramel sweetness. The taste is the opposite of the nose, the nasal part of my palate was thinking "sweet malt bomb" but this offering came at me with a brutal bitter hoppy citrus rind pimp slap. This is a good brew and balances that aggresive hop taste with some toffee goodness that again ends bitter. Another great offering from Lagunitas. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Aug 24, 2006 (22oz. Bottle) Pours a deep amber body with a large lasting beige head. Aroma of caramel, fresh baked bread, and citrus (orange, grapefruit). The flavor has a god malt base with fresh hops combined with a sweet caramel and citrus finish. This blends nicely to a soft, silky smooth dessert in a glass. An excellent beer! NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA Aug 15, 2006 Courtesy of BuckDich. strong aroma of piney hops and caramel malt with a hint of grapefruit peel. Color is a lustrous dark amber and a thumb thick, compact tan head rides atop the body. Sweet malt in the fore is rich with tasty caramel notes, but is quickly buried under and avalanche of piney hops. As in the aroma the flavor also has a mixing of piney hops and some lighter citrus accented hops. In the flavor the citrus notes are more noticeable, but no less a second fiddle to the piney flavors. I can’t say I like it, but that is just the hop-hater in me. There is certainly nothing off about it. If you accept that this is an appropriate amount of hoppiness then this is a well made beer. ratman197 (3141), Arvada, Colorado, USA Aug 15, 2006 Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, orange, bread and a hint of wet cardboard. Palate was medium bodied. Flavors of bread, carmel, light citrus and earthiness with a lingering bitter finish. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2006 Bottle. Pours an orange-copper body with a small creamy white head. The aroma has caramel, bread, faint butter, and fruit. The flavour is malt-skewed - plenty of bread and a good blast of chewy hops. Creamy body. Good.
