arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 1, 2009 On tap at Falling Rock during GABF week. This was a nice red color with a decent aroma of hops. The mouthfeel was similar to all Lagunitas beers, creamy yet also slightly sweet. Flavor was some hops and some caramel. This beer was decent but I enjoyed the Hop Stoopid much, much more.

On the nose I am getting rye there along with a hop smell and some subtle malt nuances. On the palate I am tasting rye first, some hops and a sweet but subdued malt finish. Seems to leave the palate without leaving much behind but with this beer for some reason I actually enjoy that. I like this beer a lot. Definitely great, especially the price. tmoreau (528), Lombard, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2009 12 oz. bottle at Lunar Brewing Co. and poured to a shaker with a copper/brown color, light tan, frothy head, and clingy ribbons of lacing. The aroma was mid-fruit, citrus, a lesser degree of pine and malty sweetness. The flavor offered the same notes with the malt sweetness balanced by a well rounded hop bitterness. The texture was near syrupy, and the finish was pleasantly dry. Good stuff! larryLSB (140), La Selva Beach, California, USA Aug 31, 2009 Poured from 12 oz. Darker brownish red with medium tan head. Malty nose with a bit of hops. Taste was a bit sweet, but bitter, with good mouthfeel. A very tasty brew. jumpjet2k (137), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 31, 2009 Dark red that leans towards black (makes sense for a beer that’s "red" and "imperial") and a nice foamy tan head. Some bread and resiny hops on the nose. Ample bittering hops initialize the flavor, leading into light caramel sweetness and more resiny hops. Overall, a red with the ABV bumped up a couple points - I guess that makes an imperial red. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Aug 31, 2009 Pours dark red with a tan head. Smells of resiny hops, some sweet caramel, peppery, earthy. Tastes bitter and spicy with some resiny hints, rosey splashes. Enjoyable. boamr (112), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2009 Pours a dark amber color with a whote head. Has a hoppy yeast smell to it. On taste it is very hoppy but has a nice sweet finish. A little chocolate and caramel. ruskiimperial (52), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 29, 2009 Pours with a bit of head (one finger perhaps?). The carbonation is very soft and mellow. The aroma has a nice mixture of piney hops, with some sweeter caramel malts mixed in. The initial taste has all this to some extent but it is quickly gone. The palate is almost left searching for something more because the initial flavor does not stay at all. I certainly wouldn’t consider this an american strong ale. More of a very pleasant but rather forgetable red ale that would be nice for a hot summer day.
