3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: This had a very subdued aroma, but it still had a floral and hop profile. Flavor is more resembling of a juiced up pale ale than an American strong. The taste is a little bit on the metallic side and hides some bitter hops behind it. Even though this has a small head it does leave behind a trail of lace, and the amber/brass hue is what you could expect in a beer from Lagunitas.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle Pours a clear deep redish copper with a large thick foamy off white head. Quite strong citrusy hops aroma right away. Flavor is mostly hops and alcohol. Feel is nice and heavy and smooth. Carbonation is pretty soft. The maltiness and woody flavors are a bit overpowered but not too much so. More like a robust IPA.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
dark, clear, red pour, with a light tan head, whcih laces very well.. aroma is sweet hops. somewhat fruity background, with lots of citrus and grassy hops. The other users are right, tastes like an overhopped strong, or a weird IPA. still pretty good though. I dont care if it conforms to a style. medium mouthfeel. Pretty good, cheap and hits the spot if you want a hoppy ale.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hmm, I really want to love this beer, I really do, but thereís something holding me back. This is one of the beauties about rating beer: It forces you to be critical and analyze exactly what is going on with the beer.
Pours a nice solid Amber color with a nice chunky head that lasted the whole beer and left a nice lace down the bottle.
Aroma is pure hops.
Flavor is off balance. Very, very hoppy, and Iím sure this should be an IPA instead of a Strong. Thereís some sweetness but itís almost cloying with the overabundance of hops < gasp > if there could be such a thing. Itís just out of whack.
Palate is more on the Strong side than IPA, so thicker. It tries to be crisp but itís not. Overall, itís average. Not worth seeking out unless you want to see what too many hops can do to a beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mahogany cherry wood color, puffy head with spotty lacing. Nose of fresh hops, caramel malts and light roast. The flavor is chewy, thick bodied with a bit of extra residual sweetness that shows over the bitterness. Finishes a bit phenolic. Medium body. Fresh tasting but a bit unbalanced and too herbal.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Red golden color, some amber tinge. Nice white head, some lingering. Cascade type hop aroma, but milder than a Cascade monster IPA aromatic assualt, a definite sweetness detectable. Multiple sweet malt flavors (reminiscent of vine fruit-like sweetness, and earthy herbal like sweetness) want to be dominant, and are a major contributor to the flavor, but are slightly overcome by a citrusy hop character, particularly in the nose, with a great floral burst, and in the finish, where an acrid note of bitterness sustains the unusual but interestingly balanced mouthfeel.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2005 Poured a reddish copper color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of melons, grapes, citrus hoppiness. Grassy, caramel malts, green apple taste, finishes citrus and pine, hoppy, bitter.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours amber/red with medium head. Right away the smell of hops hits by nasal palate as I am pouring this unique brew. Hops are quite sweet and citrusy. First thing to hit the taste buds are those sweet hops, then the heavy malt flavors are detected, next in line is the sweet almost barleywine-like cloying sensation, and finally the bitter finish. Quite a complex beer, takes a bit of getting used to but I definitely like it.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Weird! Not an IPA; not a Red. Alcohol is hidden. Carbonation is minimal. Did I like it...well...Iíll drink the 3 bombers I bought, unless aguest wants one. Would fit well with a burger or italian sausage.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2005 From the bottle, 2005, at Julios Spring Beer Fest, 4/02/05. Dark cherry-auburn-amber body, clear and filtered with a light beige head on it, well-retained. Aroma of fresh citric hops, slight spiciness (black pepper and rye) and some thick caramel. Initial flavor is a rush of chewy caramel, light roast and fresh, juicy hops. Peppery carbonation and a touch of warming alcohol all keep it interesting, but it dries out considerably towards the end, and the heavy filtration does not give the body much lasting effect. Starts out strong and peters out. Moderately carbonated, well-masked alcohol, but rather gimmicky, in my opinion, as this really isnt much more than a West Coast IPA with a bit more toasted grain notes and a deeper red color. I would have liked to have seen more stickiness to the body with some more malt complexity. Low yeast nuances as well (filtration again?).
