COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

Bottle. Red amber with medium dense white head. Aroma brutal hoppy wit grape notes. Taste bitter and quite hopp dominated, grape and some malty sweetness in the body. Too aggressive and brutal for me.

Bomber ours russet color with a persistant white head. Balanced hop/malt aroma that is consistent to the finish on the palate. Fruity, caramel malt backbone. Overall, another well-balanced winner from Lagunitas.

22 oz bomber poured into a chilled tall glass. Lagunitas continues their winning streak with this Imperial Red. I could tell from the aroma released from the pour that I was in for a serious hop experience. The beauty of good red ales is that the hops are balanced by a solid malt profile. This is a prime example of the style: aromatic citrus hops are complemented by smooth caramel malt. And plenty of kick from the 7.8% ABV! Another winner from the local heros in Petaluma.

liquidhedonism (66) - Beaverton, Oregon, USA - SEP 18, 2014
22 oz bottle. This beer’s huge aroma is resinous, piney, and very malty, with hints of graham cracker, biscuit, red apple, and hay. Mouthfeel is thick, sweet, and bitter from the beginning to long into the aftertaste. Ridiculously delicious beer!

Poured from a 22oz. Color is a beautiful copper red. Aroma is a citrusy/clean crisp linen smell. Flavor is hoppy, but not "punch in the face hoppy". Has a sweet start and slightly sour finish. I taste some roasty malts to balance this out. Great Imperial!

Look: pours a dark copper. Off white head. Very clear. Smell: sweet caramel. Tropical fruit. Mango. Citrus. Pine. Taste: citrus. Grapefruit. Pine. Feel: slight dryness. Leaves a thick film on the mouth. Overall: good beer. Nice cross between a red beer and an IPA. Good American hop flavor. Love the sweet flavor from the malt. First Drank: home 9/17/14

Very easy drinking red ale. Sweet malts, citrusy hops, smooth, and ABV is undetectable. Another solid beer by Lagunitas. Great brewery.

tightslice (189) - Redwood City, California, USA - SEP 17, 2014
Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is pineapple, pine, fruity malts. Flavor is sweet malts and some tart fruits up front with a balanced hoppy finish. A great autumn/winter beer for IPA lovers.

ElCapitan22 (71) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 17, 2014
Pours a dark amber color with a nice red hue. Has nice head retention and lacing. Tastes strongly of malt and is slightly bitter. Would never guess it was a near 8 percent beer. A strong choice!

Strong robust aroma nutty and strong. nothing special on appearance. Red with weak white head that dissipates quickly. A good tasting beer but not off the charts

Caytinator (943) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - SEP 14, 2014
Bomber. Pours a bold copper color, lots of sediment/hops suspended, good head with nice lacing. Aroma is medium, appetizing, and matches taste. Taste is strong--a little sweet on the nose, some malts but not as much as I’d like. Fades to a dry-hopped bitter. Nice hop back-bone. It’s a west-coast version of the imperial red ale. Recommended.
