ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA May 7, 2006 Nose of heavy pine & citrus, no shortage of spicy burnt hops. Can’t wait to taste it.
Pours a sparkling copper. The tall creamy bone head is fully lasting and leaves exceptional
lace. The brew has a very exquisite balance in addition to a huge hops blast. The finish is
a toasted masterpiece. The medium body is soft and creamy, the finish feels dry. Make no
mistake, this is a HUGE beer. This is on par with anything from Stone, Alesmith, or 3
Floyds. Wow! dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 9, 2009 A pretty fruity aroma, some hops. Some lime and orange maybe. Now this is tasty. A great hop flavor, some sweetness, a bit of caramel malt. Overall awesome. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 22, 2007 Updated: Oct 5, 2009Deep red amber with creamy, off-white head / Sweet, floral, pine, and molasses nose / Medium body with big, sweet, malts and sharp, chewy, hoppy finish / Flavors of burnt sugar, molasses, toffee, pine, and grapefruit / A very malty double IPA. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Sep 29, 2007 Strong aroma of grapefruit and caramel, with an enticing woodiness. The color is very red, decent clarity, and a thin yellow head. Medium body, wonderful thistle and grapefruit taste, smoky undertones. Finishes with a most perfectly complimentary bitter hop. The alcohol is felt in the belly not on the palate. Served in a frosted glass and was still superb! Wulfstan (509), California, USA Sep 17, 2007 Updated: May 28, 2008This is a rich, flavourful beer with complexity, body, great balance and a pleasant, flowery element in the finish. It’s full of strong flavour, yet very drinkable and smooth. A nice reddish-brown, it has a rich foamy head with good lacing. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Sep 17, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours reddish copper color with lite brown head. Aroma of citrus hops. Taste of grapefruit and sweet malt with bitter after taste. Aroma and taste of lite Double Bastard, outstanding ASA. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 2, 2006 Updated: Sep 23, 2007Re-rate 9/23/07: Draught at Charlie’s Ale House, Wheaton, IL. Even better than I remember. Wonderful balance. A near perfect brew. Clean lines and glassware didn’t hurt. As the 1st beer of the evening and with bevy of other options to choose from, I struggled with the decision to go with something else for the 2nd beer (which I did: Spaten Oktoberfest). Underrated. 8/2/06: Bottle. Some malt in the nose and some hop. Sweet, molassesy arona. Reddish amber body with an off-white head. Messy, sloppy lace. Creamy, with some hops. Well balanced. Excellent. Low alcohol for an "imperial" brew, but enough to provide some body. Well done. Ar 7, Ap 4, Fl 8, Pal 5, Ov 17 Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Oct 12, 2007 Draft 1/2 pint at Falling Rock Taphouse. Bright freakin’ red with a big poofy head. Brutal assault on the palate -- alcohol, hop oil, full-on blast of malt, more hop oil. Outstanding brew. (#3133, 10/10/2007)
