Big cheesy American hoppage on the nose with hints of charred wood and liquorice. Faint orange and spice back it up well. Noseable and chunky. Flavour is similar with the burnt toasty notes coming to the fore. Some oatmeal and maybe a little cardboard. Not as good as the aroma but nice enough. Interesting finish with a hefty dose of bitterness and minerals. Decent beer. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2006 A thick, heavy, barleywine-type strong ale. Mahogany pour with a negligible head. Heavy leather, bread, and malt in the aroma. Typical Lagunitas sticky, sugary-sweet taste up front. More hops than their Hairy Eyeball offering, but very similar. tennisjoel (952), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2008 Red copper colored body with an average head. Very balanced as far as the malt/hops combination goes. Caramel and citrus fruit combination. Fairly hoppy although it is well balanced. My first Lagunitas beer and it’s a good start from this West Coast brewer. Beerman6686 (1313), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Bottle. Bomber. Clear, copper-colored beer with a beige head. Hoppy flavor with beef-stock, malt, some sweetness and caramel. There’s hops, alcohol, malt, sweetness and beefstock in the flavor. Quite bitter in the mouth, with malt and hops to finish it off. A nice beer, but there’s too much hops to balance it. (070413) NachlamSie (1657), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 27, 2007 bottle split with Muenster. Pours red. Yep. Nice white head on top. The nose is pretty hoppy, typical Lagunitas style. Dense caramel and some peat comes out in the nose along with pine and citrus. The flavor was more on the lemony side of things than I was expecting. Very citrusy with pretty good sticky, biscuity malts to balance. This isn’t quite the typical beefed up American red ale, but it’s definitely identifiable as such and pretty tasty. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 On tap at Stone World Bistor and Gardens. poured a dark redish amber with little head. Citrusy hoped with a hint for fuitness. Flavor is sweet and hoopy, exactly as you would expect from and imp red. Like all Lagunitas brews, nothing to crazy, except the packaging, but an above average drinkable brew.
