4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 thetmaxx (373) - West Sacramento, California, USA - FEB 3, 2012
Poured from the bottle, aroma is very pleasantly hopped, smells like other lagunitas brews. Flavor is great. Nice balance of bitter and malt quite hoppy for a red which is great. Higher alcohol content is noticed. And this looks great in the glass. Clear red color with good head.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Christiano209 (3) - Keyes, California, USA - JAN 30, 2012 does not count
A- nice clear copper red with and off white 1/4 inch head that stays around for a minute leaving lacing around the glass
S- signature lagunitas smell, minty pine, tire rubber (in a good way), pungent somewhat tickles the noise, mostly all hops but hints of bready malts can be found when you search hard
T- aah, that awesomely unique lagunitas taste, it’s why I love this brewery so much, the taste follows the nose but the bready malts make a bigger appearance that almost balances out the hops, but if you we’re to ask me to tell the difference between this and they’re maximus ipa souly on taste, I’m not sure I’d be able too...
O- I love the taste of this beer like every other lagunitas I’ve had, my problem with it is besides the copper red color, what makes it an imperial red ale? Shouldn’t there be a distinct smell/flavor that tells me "yup that’s a red ale" all I know is it was great, whatever it was...
