Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of the day, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrhagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, weird, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to a futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Bomber into snifter glass, opaque deep brown (black) color with darker tan head. Aroma notes of heavy roasted malt, smoke, black licorice, cocoa and faint coffee. Taste adds dark chocolate, anise, espresso, caramel, ash, oats and earthy bitterness. Heavy-medium body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, dry with lingering bitter roast finish. Nice roasty bitter RIS.

Pours black with small brown fizz. Smells roasty with hints of chocolate. Taste is roast, chocolate, and subtle alcohol. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Lagunitas Imperial Stout finishes with a subtle sweetness.

Bottled. Has a nice color. Small head. Has a decent sweet taste. Hint of chocalate and nuts. Not a extreme bold flavor but for the price it works. Decent imperial stout.

Pours dark, minimal head with long oily legs. Nose is Roast. Taste is Roast but without depth. Great brew though. As a vegan, it makes me want some brisket or ribs from any little joint along i59/69 between the Brazos and the Colorado. Who knew Lagunitas did malts?

Great readily available 10% imperial stout for under $5 a bomber. Not sure how you could go wrong. Deep black with an oily tan head that runs the glass. Black licorice, anise, coffee round out the pallet. Dry finish tannin like finish.
