Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of the day, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrhagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, weird, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to a futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Bomber. Near black pour with a brown head. Aromas of toasted malt, caramel, chocolate, some dark fruits and light coffee notes. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, light chocolate, light fruit and subtle coffee in the end. Medium bodied both sweet and bitter at times.

Lagunitas is doing it again with this great imperial stout! Good aroma, good flavor, nice head and a good pallet. I dig this beer.

Bomber aged 1.5 yr. Purchased in Page AZ. Big roasty aromas with dark malt, dark chocolate, tar and coffee. Slight grayish, tan head with trace lacing. Solid flavors of licorice, dark tobacco, coffee, chocolate and tar round out a well made imperial stout. Super smooth no booziness.

650 ml bottle. Some decent head retention in the snifter. The aroma is a nice dark roasted grain, mild spent coffee grounds and mild vanilla undertones.

The flavor is mostly right on for the style. Lots of charred malt, dark chocolate, traces of vanilla, molasses and mild wood notes. The bitterness comes from coffee grounds but really has a light hop element underneath it all. The body is a tad leaner then I want in an Imperial. But the greatest thing about this is the price tag $4.99! At this price point I may drink it more often, especially with today’s rising cost of craft beer. This is great getting a 650 ml for under $5.00. The most complex RIS ever? No of course not but it really gets the job done.

From a bomber to a snifter, poured slowly. Dark brown, light brown head, half the glass at least. A nice thick, creamy stout that just hangs around. Some roasted coffee, malt, cocoa. I really like stouts and this is a good one.

Sehr dunkel braunes Bier mit einer ordentlichen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, kakao, leicht alkoholisch. Geschmack schokoladig, Vanille, Kakao, sehr weich.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 05.18.14. A: 3 finger tan head with a slow pour. Midnight black with some red at the bottom. S: Lots of fig. Raisin and cocoa too. Sweet smelling. T: Fig, raisin, milk chocolate dominate. Cocoa and a slight roastiness are subtle. M: Creamy smooth. O: This was perfectly balanced. It had a slight alcohol warmth on the back end. The roastiness was not overdone. This really was a fantastic stout and for $3.82 on sale ($4.49 regular), it was an absolute steal. It is amazing how Lagunitas keeps prices so low for their fantastic beers.

Love the carmel and coffee flavors, but the hops are over balanced a bit and drown out some of the other flavors.
