Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of the day, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrhagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, weird, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to a futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Bomber. Near black pour with a brown head. Aromas of toasted malt, caramel, chocolate, some dark fruits and light coffee notes. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, light chocolate, light fruit and subtle coffee in the end. Medium bodied both sweet and bitter at times.

A classic light tan head on a near black body. Nose is pretty standard with semi-sweet chocolate and coffee with a slightly vegetal edge. Lots of what you want in an IS. A solid coffee, chocolate, caramel combo leads the profile with some dark berries, well roasted malt and ash mixed in. No excess booziness. A solid quality low price classic.

Pours nearly black with no head to speak of. Has a bit of an almost meaty, smoky aroma. Flavor is rich toasted malt, with hints of burnt toast and a bit of underlying sweetness. Solid dry finish. Doesn't taste the boozy 9.9% it is. Not great but pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black with a fairly large mocha head. Aromas of chocolate, lactose, roasted malt, roasted nuts, brown sugar. Taste is chocolatey and quite sweet with a strong roasted presence. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Black with a very nice mocha head. Aroma has a lot of sweetness and dark fruit to it, with roast and coffee background. Taste is more roasty, very sweet, dark fruit, lots of caramel, and warming alcohol. A little too sweet for my taste, on the verge of cloying, but still decent.

Lagunitas Imperial Stout is a no-frills Imperial Stout. It’s a rich, malty, full-bodied beer with cocoa, coffee, and roasted malt flavors. The booze is pretty well hidden for a big beer. Bold start and bitter finish. This seems like textbook American Imperial Stout.

Bottle. A- Milk chocolate, creamy, roasty, burnt caramel. A- Black color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Bitter, cocoa. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, aggressive finish. O- Definitely a traditional imperial stout. Lots of bitter chocolate and aggressiveness on the finish. Not my favorite but it’s done well.
