Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of the day, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrhagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, weird, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to a futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Poured dark with a tan head that quickly went away. Slight roasty smokey aroma. Found the body light and thin, not what I expect from an Imperial Stout. Taste is also thin, soapy , hard to explain not much character - no roasty, coffee or chocolate flavors, found the taste bland. This is a very disappointing beer, not like anything I’ve had from this brewery.

Lagunitas Imperial Stout has a thin, beige head, thin lacing left on the glass, and a dark brown (essentially black) appearance. Aroma is of dark-roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee, but the smells are rather faint. Taste is somewhat bolder, with added sourness, char, bitterness, and acidity. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Lagunitas Imperial Stout finishes powdery and strong. Overall, this does not have the boldness or intensity of Narwhal or Old Rasputin, but it is still outstanding. This was a huge disappointment. Something off in the aroma and flavor. Very thin for an imperial stout. Not the bone warming chocolate espresso oil I expect for this style.

Awesome thick mouthfeel. Sweet malty chocolate more than coffee. Head in nice and fades. Slight chalk flavor an average imperial. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: thick and black pour like oil. Sweet choco aromas and sweet Flavors of chocolate abound. This is a good one to have as desert. It was enjoyed outdoors around the firepit. Fitting.

Look: pours a dark black. Not clear at all. Light brown head. Smell: heavy chocolate. Very sweet chocolate. Vanilla. Taste: chocolate. Strong bitterness. Vanilla. Roasted malts. Very malt forward. Feel: creamy mouth feel. Medium low carbonation. Overall: good beer. Nice stout. Love the aroma and the mouthfeel. Taste is good. Not too heavy on the coffee side which is nice fire me. Excellent, balanced beer. Complex but extremely smooth and refreshing. A drinkable everyday beer.

Big bottle, probably a couple of dollars from that supermarket near the hotel on the Upper West Side. Huge aroma of vanilla pod bourbon and Neopolitan ice cream slivered with bitter bitter chocolate and burnt toast spooned with blackcurrant jam. Jet pitch opacity capped luxuriously with dirty manilla. Juicy blueberry, blackcurrant undertones overwhelmed by citrus-aping coffee and cocoa; burnt carob, vanilla, Everton mint. Bittersweet and properly stouty. Stupendous deep chocolate and jammy fruit on the belch. Awesome! I think the Americans call it.
