Commercial Description:
Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

1 pint 6 fluid oz. bottle from Sherbrooke Liquor (Edmonton), served cool in a wine glass.

App.: Slightly reddish brown-black with a so-so light mocha head. Aroma: Lots of salty licorice, molasses and raisins, a bit of soy sauce (salty and savoury), hints of other dark dried fruits, some chocolate, some bright, vinous notes. Palate: Medium+ body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Much liek the nose – salty licorice, molasses, some black coffee and a bit of dark chocolate, a bit of dark dried fruits, a little bright and vinous (less than nose), a touch of cardboard, a bit of green hops; somewhat sweet with fair bitterness and a little tang; leaves a bit of cardboard, some molasses and a little chocolate.

Not stellar, but fairly nice. A bit light for the style, I think.

Dark brown with a dismally small head. I expect a darker, thicker look if they’re going to call it an imperial stout. Smell is fresh baked bread. Maybe some chocolate in there somewhere. Flavor is a tad watery. I can taste yeast and some roasted malts. That’s it. Palate is watery too. Look, I have no problem with a beer deviating from style a bit, but there is no way that this is an imperial stout. A watery belgian perhaps. But there’s just not much going on here. I am very disappointed.

22oz Bomber - Trade - Daknole
Aroma – Huge dark malt aroma. Nice hops backing with the chocolate and coffee aromas lingering.
Appearance – Dark Brown in Color, Thick head and hazy.
Flavor – Big Dark malt flavor with the bittering of the hops and the coffee and chocolate flavors this beer had it all. It was thick and just awesome. The alcohol was high but came through nicely and not too overpowering.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, chocolate like texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was #1600 for me and a great beer to add to my beer I have had. Wow what a great beer. Love to try this with cherries and other berries and even on some ice-cream.

It has a dark brown color, almost black; the head disappears quickly. Quite nice aroma of dark caramel. Medium body, even thinner at the end, with some caramel flavor, a bit nutty, I may imagine some liquorice too, but really lacking complexity. It even seems less bitter than expected, and the final is strangely empty. I prefer the IIPAs/ASAs from Lagunitas.

Bomber. Nearly black (garnet on the edges) with a nice tan head. Strong nose of chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel moderate for a stout. Flavor has a little sweetness, with more hops showing through more than you see with many stouts. A little light for an Imperial Stout, but overall a quite decent offering by Lagunitas.

Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts. Mild sweet burnt flavor with some coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation and a creamy mouthfull. Good for the price.
