This is our unique version of an ancient style. A style as old as the ocean trade routes of the last centuries Great Ships. Not as old as the equator they had to cross twice enroute, nor as old as the 10,000 or so miles of Di-Hydrogen Oxide and Sodium upon which they sailed, but older than the Circulithium-4 Lentloid that binds the Lupulin Quartnate onto your taste buds. Weird. Think about it. Now stop. OK, go again, now stop. Think again, and stop. But we digress. Made with 43 different hops and 65 various malts, this redolent ale will likely float your boat, whatever planet you’re on.

A copper/amber color out of the bottle with a thin, lasting off-white head. Subtle floral hop nose. My first impression is that the body seems a little thin. There are lots of hops in this, with a grapefruit rind bitter finish, but needs more malt support. Tastey and easy to drink.

Bottled. Average head, pretty white. Nice, thick lacing and well lasting head. Almost clear honey body with some small particals. Smells of apricots and wet straw. Taste is apricots, almost imperceptibly sweet; finish is dry and rather bitter, some grapefruit rind. Mouthfeel is nice; wet, soft creamy carbonation...makes your mouth water; very nice medium body. Overall: there's no sweet(I think apricots, I want sweet), lots of bitter, very dry and really interesting flavor with sugarless apricot.

The color is a clear medium copper. Not a whole lot of head. There's a low, herbal hop aroma. It's sweet and malty with only medium bitterness. Nicely balanced but surprisingly reserved for the style.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2004 Orange copper medium thick body with a one inch thick head that left nice lace as it dissipated. Medium carbonation is just right for the style. Aroma is piney hops and alcohol. Taste lacks a lot of sweetness, and is unbalanced towards snappy hop bitterness with some astringency reminiscent of orange peel. The malts are biscuit like with a bit of a sour twang in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but gets better as the beer warms. A good IPA for a hophead. Thanks 123456green for this opportunity to taste some west coast goodness.

RatingPours an almost brilliantly clear copper color and is topped by a cream colored head. The aroma is sharply hoppy with a nose that is redolent of pine, the nose is quite nice. Ah, yes this beer has actually been fermented, what a relief, this beer is nothing like the last one I had. This beer is sharp and crisp up front. It leads to a beer that is piney, a bit citrusy, and has a solid bitter bite in the finish. This beer has a solid malt presence as well, it is lightly sweet with notes of caramel and biscuits. The malt definitely is faint behind the solid hoppiness though, but it is there and helps to keep the hops from being overwhelming. As this beer warms up a bit I get notes of apricot, and grapefruit. Overall, this is quite a nice IPA.

Wow this beer smells like it has not yet been fermented. A sweet wort smell, that is heavy on the crystal malt. A bit of spicy hop notes under the main smell, but not much. Pours a hazy copper color with a prodigious tan head that fades fairly quickly. Again there is a sweet malt flavor, that is reminiscent of sweet wort. The beer ends with a bit of bitterness. I must admit, this is quite a stretch to be labeled as an IPA, a pale ale perhaps but not an IPA. A light hop flavor and not enough bitterness, this is a bit of a disappointment. It is halfway interesting, just not close to what I was expecting. There is way too much residual sweetness and body in this beer, it just makes it too unbalanced. I will tell you one thing, the rest of this 6-pack will be used for making Brats. (6/4/6/3/13/3.2)

Cloudy, golden-amber body. Huge off-white, vanilla colored head. 1st bottle blew up in my lap after sitting level for days. Massive carbonation, smells of apple cider, pine, citrus and something grainy like uncooked corn. Taste is big and sweet with apples, pineapple, pine cones and needles, and some grapefruit. Palate suffers from some wateriness. Thin mouthfeel is much different than a more syrupy IPA like stone.

Pours, nice deep amber color. Perfect head, and later, a nice lace all the way down the glass. Nose is subdued a bit, compared to other IPA's, this I can not explain because it really opens up on the palate. A tinge malty at first, tastes of lemons and grapefruit, nice sharp hop finish, a flicker of salt and black tea. Actually very light-bodied, clean but sharp. A nice IPA, with a killer drinkability factor. No ABV% listing, but I'm guessing more in the 6-6.5% range. Tends to steer away from the floral characters, lending more to the citrus genre. A nice solid brew

Poured gold in a tall Magic Hat #9 glass with a nice head. Soapy, floral aroma. Taste is good, but a little dull. If it had the same taste kicked up, they'd have something. Well balanced with a nice dry and sweet finish.

On tap at a pizza place. Cloudy amber color. Creamy lasting head. Nose of some hops, nothing too pronounced. Surprisingly very malty, was disappointed with the hops in this one, might of been a slight hint of skunk. Didn't pick up any complexities, I'll try this one in a bottle again to be fair and give it a more accurate rating. Surpised some gave this one outstanding marks.

Fat nose of fresh west coast hops, amber color, tall tan and sticky head. Light malt body gets quickyl overpowered by a high resolution, bright hop bitterness that stays around forever. The bitterness actually seems to INCREASE after the swallow. Great effect. Smooth, crisp, excellent IPA.
