bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA May 22, 2009 Bottle... Found my notes from a while back. Very amber with white head. VEry thick malty smell and also smells of alcohol. Decent hop level. But mostly sugary, honey and carmel tasting malts. Can’t beat the price and quality. tomer (365), Rishon Le Zion, Israel May 21, 2009 At a tasting, thanks Natalie and Roei, Small stable head lacing the glass, crystal clear amber colou, raromas of spice, pine and cooked jammy fruit, flavour of dark concentrated honey, with barnyard notes and light spiciness, strong but not overwhelming bitterness, bitter but suprisingly subtle aftertaste. overall a good strongandt relativly balanced ale. zvikar (414), Tel-Aviv, Israel May 20, 2009 At a tasting, thanks tomer, dark red to amber with nice tan head, aroma of citrus, pine, grapefruite and cheese, sweetnes of marmalade, flavors of cherries grapefruit and toffee, bitterness is medium. Nice beer DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel May 18, 2009 Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks tomer! Clear amber color with a beige head. Aroma of pine needles, some resin, hints of flowers and a bit of toasted malt. Very bitter resinous flavor with caramel and some alcohol, especially towards the finish. Medium to full-bodied, a bit oily. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009
This tasted like your standard hoppy red ale, with a little too much malt and a little too heavy. Alcohol however is very well hidden behind the sweetness.
I had a bottle fresh, then I had an older bottle and this beer really needs to be consumed right away. Fresh it is well balanced, and pretty darn drinkable, could be a good session beer. But the second the hops start to fade, this beer just gets too sweet. GranvilleTim (466), Granville, Illinois, USA May 5, 2009 reddish-brown pour with a light tan head/ Malty aroma. The malt flavor is abundant in this beer, has some dryness and a little sweetness. Leaves a thick lacing on the glass. Its an OK beer. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA May 4, 2009 How can you go wrong when you are going down the ailes of a standard grocery store and you’re staring down "Coors, Bud, Henry, Corona" and then that girl looks at you. No, you perv, not that girl. The girl on the bottle of Lucky 13. You see her giving you that look like, c’mon you wanna try me. At least once you do. And when you do, you’ll want to go back. The girl is that good.
OK, so it’s the beer that’s good and not the chick on the label (although that’s a nice label). Lagunitas pumps out beer after beer. Some good, others not so good. This one, thankfully, lands squarely in the land of good. The beer pours out a whiskey colored reddish brown, with a really nice thick tan head. Aromas are...hmm...caramel. Definitely lots of that, and a nice heaping dose of grapefruity hops. The grapefruity and the caramel mesh really well, with the aroma but there’s also a touch of iced tea character to the beer. Each harmonious yet quite independant of one another. Flavors have a nice toasted malt angle, perhaps a bit of scorched marshmallows is more like it. Combining with the malts is a really user-friendly hop profile that’s easy to enjoy. Piney resinous hops are quite the eye opener and to say this beer is enjoyable is spot on. Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2009 Bottle Pours a clear goldenrod with an off white head. The head last well and produces okay lacing. The aroma is a good mix of sweet malts and some hops. Has a good carbination and a good mouthfeel. The flavors are good with a nice touch of spices ina ddition to the malts and hops. Has a medium body. The texture is between watery and oily. Has a good finish with an okay aftertaste. Overall this is a pretty good beer.
