Aroma is very floral and pleasant and is the most appealing characteristic of the beer by far. Flavor was very subtle and hoppy, kinda bitter. Palate was very smooth especially given the strength. I really liked this beer and would reccomend it to anyone. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA

Aroma: Sweet caramel and soapy hops. Taste: Nice chewy, non alcoholic taste. Great brew for the price. A little astringent, but that is just a hops variety preference. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2008 pours with a malty sweetness smell that dissipates quickly. dark orange color that is fairly hazy. nose starts to show citrus, good balance of malt backbone to hoppiness. I would think of this as an imperial red more than an american strong. it does have a taste that is reminiscant of an english barleywine but with more late addition hops. the problem I see is that this beer would benefit from aging but then would lose its hop nose. finish leaves you thirsty for water, reminding me of a scottish wee heavy. overall a nice beer carboloader (319), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2008 From big bottle. Pours transparent ruby brown with tiny head. Smells like northwest hops and sweet malts. Indeed, flavor is a nice (and big) balance of piney hops and caramel malts with a decent bitter finish. Almost too sweet to me, but the bitter finish is great and balances it out nicely. Serious alcohol kick too. I could drink this more often...would love to taste it on draught.

Nice frothy med white head, good balance of hops and malts. Great copper color. At 3.99 per 22 oz bomber, this is a very good value. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Draft poured deep copper color, almost red. Grassy and pine hop aroma. Some alcohol present in the aroma. Light tan head leaves to a nice ring around the glass. Pine hop bitterness is not too overpowering. Caramel, toffee, raisin(?) and maybe apricot flavors there. One of my favorites. A 15 gallon keg in the basement for Father’s Day made me happy. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish-amber with a foamy off-white head. Big hoppy aroma, with citrus and pine notes. Taste starts a bit sweet and bright then a big hoppy bitterness kicks in. Nice lingering bitterness. Very tasty and drinkable. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2008 Bomber! Bright ruby/bronze color. It would appear to be a very malt-dominated brew, but looks are deceiving. The aroma is dominated by hops. This is a beer that could double as an air freshener. The insane hoppage actually coagulates nicely with the heavy malt. The Lucky 13 is a big assertive, imposing beast of American goodness in a 22oz bottle. God bless those hippies at Lagunitas for making excellent beer at affordable prices!
