gauguin007 (11), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 4, 2008 22oz. bottle. Orval chalice. Pours deep orange color. Fresh, grassy dry hops all over a sticky sweet malt base. Plenty of character and assertive flavor. Alcohol over 8%. This is a big beer with a big hop presence, nice balance, very tasty. TampaBeer (181), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 3, 2008 Pleasant aroma and appearance. I like the fully developed sour/fresh flavor in this beer. However it suffers in the finish. It is dry, which is nice, but the flavor never wraps up appropriately with a sweetness or bite. afireinside96 (817), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 3, 2008 22oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Pours a deep reddish amber color with an off white head. Smells of cookie, citrusy hops, and a hint of cocoa. Big balanced flavor, caramel and citrus shine together. Long bitter finish. Stays interesting throughout the whole bottle. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle from the Co-op in Davis, CA. Poured a copper color and smelled of citurs hops. I love how Lagunitas has almost perfected the blend of hops and malts to make it so smooth on the palate. Carmel and a little bit of citus help this beer have such a great taste. timfoolery (482), California, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle from Coop in Davis, CA. It’s difficult to quantify this brew without mentioning another Lagunitas beer, the copper ale. It’s maltier than the latter, but it still has a little kick of hops. Otherwise, there are flavors consistent with a citrus IPA mixed with a malty amber. Very good. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark orange with a small white head that left nice lacing. Aroma of wheat and rye malt with flowery, pine and citrus hops. Flavor is an awesome blend of the wheat malt with flowery hops. Lots of wheat and sesame crackers, also a lemon/citrus zest. Quite drinkable. A random purchase that turned out to be a wonderful surprise. Delicious! fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 2, 2008 Updated: Jan 10, 2009Bottle. Very nice aroma with a mixture of pine hops, a hint of citrus hops, and fruit-laden, lively caramel malt. Flavor continues to be a brilliant blend of both worlds, working together seamlessly. Never too sweet despite such a showcase of rich malt. Very nice. 8-4-8-4-16/4.0
Rerate 1/10/09 Bottle. Aroma of tropical fruits, very juicy such fruits, and sweet, juicy malt, seemingly lots of crystal. Flavor less juicy, hindered and covered up by some astringency. Basically how I first perceived the beer except now I notice the astringency. Still enjoyed it though. 8-4-7-4-14/3.7. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jul 1, 2008 Dark amber appearance with a small, off white head and modest lacing. Aroma bounces from sweet malt to spruce. Taste is more piney hops that play well off the caramel malt backbone. Full bodied, nicely carbonated mouthfeel; long lasting finish.
