snuffla (95), Chch, New Zealand Sep 14, 2009 US trip Aug/Sept 2009 - Fat white head that persists down the glass. Orange, pine cone and hints of spice on the nose. Big, fat and drinkable with a nice bristley hop finish merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Sep 12, 2009 Bomber pours a mostly clear reddish amber body with a creamy two finger beige head. Nice looker. Pungent aroma of citrusy orange and grapefruit hops and toasty caramel and toffee. Pine hop notes add a nice edginess. Taste has a prevailing hop bitterness that is mostly citrus, but is enhanced by pine resin and a leafy earthiness. Solid maltiness balances with a caramel and toffee presence that is both toasty and sweet. Very nicely executed. Lagunitas is turning out some excellent ales at great prices. I paid less than five dollars for this bottle in Asheville, NC. Pwn3d (1042), Manhattan, New York, USA Sep 10, 2009 Pint at RnH. Pour is brown with red hue. Nose is hoppy, citrus, alcohol, bit of pine. Flavors are malt, spice, caramel and hop. Decent with food. sleestak (180), Williamston, Michigan, USA Sep 10, 2009 Bomber! Pours reddish-brown with not much of a head. Strong aroma of bread and caramel with a backdrop of hops and EtOH. Unexpected amounts of citrus/pine hops upfront melts into a sweet biscuity finish. Booze is hidden well. Light carbonation and a slightly syrupy body. Tasty stuff! chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 9, 2009 Dark brown pour with tan head. Aroma of alcohol and some caramel notes. Flavor of caramel with some spice and hops. Slacks (481), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2009 Botlte @ Bar Volo: Pours a cloudy copper, good foamy off-white head. Nose is boozy, buttery, copper, toffee and very hoppy. Flavour is caramel, butterscotch, whiskey, grass. Great red ale. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 6, 2009 Bomber courtesy of Cavie poured into a snifter. Pours clear red with a nice thick white head. Aroma is all hops... Some pine and a bit cat pee. Also a hint of alcohol. The flavor is big malt sweet up front and follows with a cascade of hops, some flavor and a good dose of bitter. Big sticky body and medium carbonation. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 1, 2009 Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Deep opaque amber with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good head retention and lacing.
Aroma: You can smell this one as soon as you pop the top. Ripe fruit, grass, herbal notes, citrus, a little alcohol, and light brown sugar. It smells great!
Taste: Hop forward with lots of citrus and herbal notes. Aggressive bitterness that is a little on the acrid side. Honey, brown sugar, and a slight hint of toasted malt try to balance things out, but this one still leans to the hops. Floral and perfume notes emerge as the beer warms. The flavor isn’t quite as harmonious as the nose, but is still worthwhile.
Palate: Medium-low, very fine carbonation with a medium, slightly dry mouthfeel. Medium-long, bitter finish.
Overall: A pretty good strong ale. The nose creates high expectations that the taste falls just short of. Still, it’s not bad, just not great. If you are a fan of DIPAs, this is a welcome change of scenery.
Rebuy: Worth trying once, but I probably won’t go back to it.
