alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Dec 15, 2007 Bottle courtesy of golubj; poured a brownish amber with a creamy off white head. Aroma was of sweet caramel malt and tangerine; notes of pure citrus, toffee and fine. Flavor was very solid for the style. Flavor was a pretty good balance of caramel and citrus/grapefruit/pine. Flavor was accented with a mild sweetness. Some acidity in the finish. Overall it was very solid, but had nothing to set it a part. Slightly above average for the style. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 11, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours a deep amber with a one finger light tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, pine, floral hops, and notes of citrus. Smooth flavor of caramel , toffee, citrus, and piney hops with a hint of raisins and a dry and hoppy finish. Very well balanced. An excellent american strong ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Dec 4, 2007 Updated: Jan 12, 2008I over-ranked this previously, because it didn’t stand up on a second bottle. The color is befitting a maestro red. I found the most bitterness at the opening, not the close, and even that was extremely well-balanced. Notes of milk, cinnamon/sugar and a sweetness reminiscent of maraschino are the chief impressions, and this mysterious last is the finish. A great anniversary. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Dec 2, 2007 This begins with a dark orange pour that produces a large off-white head.
Fruity bubblegum aroma. Light body, slight bitterness leads to some nice dryness, but not heavy like an APA or IPA.
O.K., but perhaps a bit ordinary. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Nov 25, 2007 22 oz bottle-pours a rich tan head that laces and copper color. Aroma is nice citrus hops cascade (+?), secondary medium malt, alcohol. Taste is bitter/metallic citrus hops cascade (+?), secondary medium/dark malt-caramel/molasses, alcohol, roasty/peat. OK carbonation. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Nov 22, 2007 Piney and citrusy nose with a touch of isovaleric cheese. Mild corn syrup character on the palate. Lingering hop finish. Stong hoppy taste mixed in with some carmel-y and sweetness.
