Comments: Straightforward biscuity, very sweet, caramelly American ale overloaded with crystal malt sugars and clashing hops. Full-on bitterness, salty and mineral finish. Been there, done that.
ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 7, 2007 Clear amber colour with an off white head. Quite hoppy and pineapple fruity aroma on a caramel sweet background. Malty, caramel sweet flavor with notes of hops and alcohol. jcr (1139), Jasper, Indiana, USA Nov 5, 2007 Nice looking beer with off-white, frothy head atop a dark amber body. Moderate malty nose with notes of caramel and toast. Hop aroma of grapefruit and resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Moderately acidic, especially in the finish which also leaves a slight taste of rubber. Medium body is slightly syrupy in texture. Moderate carbonation. Warming alcohol. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2007 22 oz. bottle. Rating #1313. Sturday, somewhat cloudy amber color under a thick, tannish IPA style head in my shaker. Smell of sweet malts wafts with a nose of pine and floral hops. Taste starts as an IPA with extra Vienna malt. Light caramel sweetness, but crisp, not stcky. Hops tickle all parts of the tongue: again floral and spicy, plus some earthiness and pine. Cozy alcohol warming actually a respite from all the big beers I’ve had over the weekend. Chunks of foam lace the sides of the glass. Great texture, light bitter aftertaste to please hopheads. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Nov 1, 2007 22 oz. bottle from Gregis, shared with a friend. Pour is a ruby, amber with a tannish 1/2 inch head. Aroma of bitter citrus rinds, sweetish malt and a touch of earthiness. Taste is better balanced than I was expecting from the nose. Great hop brightness and bitterness throughout, with a nice caramel nut malt backbone. This is a big beer, certainly, but the malt and hop are all nicely balanced. Nice beer, thanks Greg! yobdoog (1429), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Oct 31, 2007 Draft @ Mugs Anniversary. Bigger than I remember. Lots of hops. Aroma and taste. Some sweet some bitter. Some citrus some pine. Very well balanced. Creamy translucent pour. Love imperial pints. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2007 Lah-goo-knee-tuss....Floaters!!....red/amber with beige head....quite hoppy aroma, malt undertones as well, but mainly hops....hoppy flavor with quite a malty backbone....nice bite combined with creaminess, nice balance...citrus rind finish SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 29, 2007 22 oz. bottle: This beer pours a deep copper that near brown with a thick, creamy head. Citrusy hops make up the majority of the nose, but they aren’t really all that bright. Sweet caramel and toffee as well. Thick, chewy mouthfeel and the plethora of hops in the body make me think barleywine. A bolder proportion of caramel malts offer lots of sweet bread, caramel and sugar babies. The body is rindy with bitterness. This is alright, but I liked the Imperial Red better (if we are comparing "Large Red Ales.")
