mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2007 22 oz bomber. Deep red copper in color with a little fluffy head. Caramel malty nutty aroma. Malty hoppy caramel flavor. Nutty caramel notes. Sweet tasting. Medium bodied. Finish is malty and sweet. Nice beer. Enjoyable. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Jul 29, 2007 Bomber. Nice head retention in the new, trusty SA glass. Not much in the aroma except the traditional Lagunitas carmel aroma. Taste is really smooth especially being how young this is. Just a bit of funkiness in the sweet brown sugar other than that, standard Lagunitas, which is just fine with me. rick10485 (53), oneonta, New York, USA Jul 24, 2007 Strongbarely, piney hop punch at first sip. Pours a carmel reddish collor with heavy carbonated head. Solid citrus and brown sugar notes. Very strong brew all around brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Jul 24, 2007 22oz bottle. Red copper color with a nice looking off white head. Crisp malty caramel aroma. Is that Rye I detect? Light pine hops that are well integrated. The flavor is very nice. Seems to have a decent amount of wood in the flavor though I don’t know that they age this in wood or with wood chips at all. There is also a firm palate of flavors that include caramel, crisp grain, juicy pine and citrus peal hops and just an overall solid integration of flavors. Enjoyable. Medium-full body with a semi-dry finish. This is probably the best Lagunitas brew I have had to date. Please make more. beerbill (1919), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 22, 2007 22 oz. bottle. Pours a very cloudy dark amber with a wide, almost creamy, light tan head that lasted to the bottom of the glass and left sheets of lacing all the way. Pleasant aroma of citrus, caramel, and light pine. The initial flavor was caramel, but almost immediately, grapefruit and pine flavors kick in big time. Really tastes like an IPA. What I especially liked was that despite the strong hops presence, this beer was not excessively bitter. Very enjoyable. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2007 I picked up a Bomber for around nine bucks @ Foodery II in Nothern Liberties, Philadelphia. In 1994 when Lagunitas Brewing was "born" red beers were still the rage. Lucky #13 is a "red" American Strong Ale with strong malt, hop and yeast flavors. I thought of it more of a barleywine "light" than a suped up IPA. Definitely worth trying! I followed my bomber up with a few Stegmaier Gold Medal returnables instead of a barleywine because Lucky #13 satisfied my micro palate for the night. BRANDY LOOKING WITH A SIMILARLY APPROPRIATE HEAD. DYNAMIC FINISH DEFIANT IN THEIR HOPPINESS...YES...LIFE MUST FINISH DEFIANTLY! BITTER BITCH SO BEAUTIFUL AND VOLUPTUOUS WE SHALL NEVER PART. ElGaucho56 (386), USA Jul 20, 2007 Yet another specialty release from the cali bad boys. Pours a delightful devil red with healthy carbonation and a caramel nose offset with earthy hops. Seems pretty well attenuated, as alcohol is up there without a high OG, yet beer is still sweet on the palate, hops come back and duke it out down the gullet. congrats on sticking around guys. Keep up the madness.
