theshocker (329), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jun 20, 2007 Amber, medium tan head. Malty aroma, but bitter hoppy flavor. Chewy, thick body. Another winner, although this doesn’t stand out as much as some of their other special brews. I think this bottle maybe old though. jlf278 (250), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jun 20, 2007 Mild aroma - hoppy, floral. Big creamy frothy light-tan head., condenses and sticks around. Beautiful dark amber. Nice creamy, full body, a bit harsh on throat, a little tingly on the tongue. Good sweetness balance with bitter hops. Typical grapefruit, some leather, orange, pepper. honey. raspberry. Mighty beer with lots of character though perhaps a bit similar to their undercover investigation strong ale, which I find has a better bitterness to it. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Jun 17, 2007 bomber. radiant cherry color with a small white head. soft floral aroma from the fresh hops with apple notes. mild sweetness that is quickly crushed by soapy hops washing out into bitterness and a little medicine. tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Jun 16, 2007 This is one hoppy red ale. Definitely strong on hops, but still palatable. kimcgolf (822), Dacula, Georgia, USA Jun 15, 2007 Poured a bright copper color with thick off-white head that lasted long and left good lacing up and down the glass. Aroma was a citrus grapefruit hops, mixed with a touch of malty sweetness. Mouthfeel is slightly oily, but crisp, and the flavor was very muich reminded me very much of an IPA, tangy citrus-hops with a touch of malt, and a finish that is long and bitter. A damn good beer. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 14, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep amber body with thin head. Hoppy aroma, strong malt presence. Flavor is sweet, very hoppy - amarillo detected, heavy malty backbone, and a little dusty. This would please any hop head. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jun 13, 2007 Transparent, magnifying and bright copper in color with a fuzzy grey khaki cream head hovering at the top. Aroma is ripe with caramel soaked grahams, amarillo, honeydew, mango shells and orange blossom honey. Sweet, hopped amaretto treat with a hint of powdered nectarines. Oily resin slides in with orange mandarin butter and peaches glossed in an amaretto-laced caramel glaze. Sourdough is graced with bitter orange peel. Liquid pulp, cherry saffron and rose herbal honey twist with blood oranges. Bitterness is well countermanded with the creamy orange dream like characteristics. Cascades are in their elegance with the bitter orange caramel tongue licks, finishing with golden maple and orange blossom honey over a hybrid blood orange that’s crossbred with grapefruit. Thanks for the bomber, tpkenned! IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jun 13, 2007 Poured an effervescent dark amber with a large fizzy off-white head. Beautiful aroma of bitter grapefruit rind and lemon, some fresh pine and some cut grass. Like squeezing grapefruit on a fresh-cut lawn. Flavor is predictable, but in a good way. Strong bitter grapefruit right up front, with some piney earthiness. Toffee is there but overall the malt in this is more subdued compared to other big reds. Finish is bitter citrus and some slightly metallic alcohol. Body is rather full. Overall an excellent example of the style, one for which I admittedly have a bit of a weakness.
