bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Aug 19, 2009 Bomber. Brown, filtered, with a nice thick white head. Nice hop nose, with some faint background maltiness. Taste is a bit strange, with some alcohol bitterness, mild toned-down hop flavors. Thick mouth. Not sure what this is but it is somewhat tasty. Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 18, 2009 Draught at Birreria Paradiso. Off red, slight white head. Aroma of fresh hops. Powerful hoppy bitterness throughout, and lasting in the finish. Best tap beer of the night. ultracake (32), salem, Oregon, USA Aug 17, 2009 Really a good beer, i thought its agespretty well, i saved a bottle for close to 6 months. Very hoppy, sweet you can taste the alcohol, but very good kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 17, 2009 Well for a hophead this was great! Not quite a duoble IPA, certainly plenty of malt but dominated by fragrant hops. Slightly cloudy from the bottle, they have put a bunch into this beer. tmoreau (527), Lombard, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2009 Sampled on tap at Brixie’s 75th anniversary beer tapping in Brookfield, IL. Dispensed to my fluted fest glass a brownish amber by Tony Magee’s sister, Karen. The head was off white and foamy with the lace appearing as tight sheeting on the inside of the glass. The aroma was citrusy and strong malt sweetness. The flavor was mid-fruit sweetness, citrus, hefty malt and hop bitterness, tartness, and a favorable astringency in the finish. Full bodied and bold. TChrome (1298), Bedford, Texas, USA Aug 17, 2009 I have long been a fan of strong red ales and this definetely does not disappoint! Beer pours reddish amber color with a nice big, totally retained off white head that is producing nice lacing. Aroma is big, bold pinapple and pine suggesting copious hopping. Flavor follows the aroma and is both sweet and refreshingly bitter. This is top flight ale IMO. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2009 Draught at the Grumpy Bulldog in Naperville. A cola colored brown with a soapy bubbly off-white head that leaves swathes of filmy lacing. Aroma is piney, citrusy hops and a big helping of malt sweetness. Soapy piney hops mingle with a big malty body, not overly complex, but big and tasty. Full bodied, a bit creamy with a mild lingering hop bitterness. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Aug 17, 2009 Wasn’t my favorite, whether we’re classifying it as a red or a barley wine. Perhaps it’s trying to be too many things. Amber colored with a thick cream head and plenty of bubbles. Palate was a bit syrupy. Aromas of malts, earthy hop and alcohol. Nothing subtle in the nose nor in the taste. Malt and alcohol predominate, with a bit of hop and florals in the background.
