JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jun 8, 2007 Sweet and hoppy. Red in color. Aroma begins with a ton of hops. Flavor has lots of bitter, herbal, and citrus-hop flavors as well as very sweet malt. Very nice. wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jun 8, 2007 Pours a clear dark amber with a fairly robust off white head that diminishes somewhat. Aroma is piney hops and some malt. Sweet caramely malt flavor along with an assertive citrusy hop bitterness. 8.3% ABV goes un-noticed in the taste. Very good, but you’d better like the California hophead approach to brewing. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 7, 2007 Updated: Sep 9, 2009 A nice hoppy, slightly creamy aroma with some pineapple in it. This is really nice. Has an agressive first flavor, but a smoother, more subdued finish without too much graininess. Great! BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2007 "Is there rye in this beer?" That is the question I asked myself with each sip of this very good beer. I love rye beer, and I couldn’t figure out if this beer was in that club or not. It was very reminiscent to me of Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye, and exhibited a malt character that I found very similar to the American rye beers I’ve had (Red’s Rye, Cane & Abel, Hop Rod, Lenny’s RIPA, etc). Definitely recommended.
It was very red in color, like a rye beer. I detected rye-like notes in the aroma along with some hop sweetness. Flavor was hops very nicely balanced with a grain presence that once again I thought as rye. Mouthfeel was very effervescent and good, with a bit of graininess in the texture, a bit like the sugar imparts in Two Brothers Cane & Abel.
The more I drank it, the more I liked it. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jun 6, 2007 Bottle... Crystal clear burnt orange ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. Great retention. The fruity, earthy aroma is a blend of tropical fruit, grapefruit and caramel with hints of burnt rubber and pine. A hearty malt backbone provides the perfect framework for supporting the heavy, grapefruit pith bitterness and undertone of tropical fruits. Full-bodied with a mineral oil mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Lengthy, very bitter finish. Cheers to vyvvy for providing the bottle! michael-pollack (2602), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 5, 2007 22oz. Bottle: Faint aroma is lightly sweet. Smells malty with hints of caramel and cookie dough, and a little hoppy with some citrus notes. Poured amber in color with hints of ruby and copper. Small, off-white head diminished. Small lacing. Clear and lightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Tastes mostly of hops with notes of herbs and a little grapefruit. Also some malty notes of caramel and earth. Medium body. Thin, slightly sticky texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish lasts. Very well balanced. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jun 5, 2007 from a 22oz bottle. poured amberr-read with a good white head. Flavor was malty but with a good amount of hopiness. A nice amount of carbonation with a nice crisp finish. The luganitas folsk might not right coherent sentences, but they brew good beer. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 4, 2007 Updated: Jun 29, 2007This was a good strong ale with a little hop up finished, not bad at all with hints of malt .CHEERS!
