Mondo Large Red Ale
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California’s best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

Drank a few years ago. Notes on it were poured a deep orange-amber with playful big head. The aroma was fruity with citrus, earthy, and big malts and grains. Taste is also fruity with citrus, a muted earthyness, malty backbone, and some spice on the finish. Big body, chewy. Big carb as well. FInish is slightly hot.

Store label of 12.04.13. Poured from a bomber into a beer can glass on 06.08.14. A: 3 finger tan head that retains well. A 1 finger head stayed the entire time. Somewhat cloudy amber/red body. S: Caramel, pine, citrus. T: Strong caramel and toffee dominate. Grapefruit is subtle. M: Creamy smooth. O: This is like a stronger Censored but with a grapefruit sweetness.

22 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Hazy dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Enticing aroma of mango, tropical fruits, pineapple, and tangerine. The taste is a great blend of tangerine and guava with caramel and toffee notes. Finish is slightly boozy but not unpleasant. A great beer!

"imperial red in aroma and taste, although a little more spicy and malt heavy than expected. pretty hoppy and bitter/spice in the finish. a poor man’s Stone 13th IRA if you will. Good all around. Not nearly as fresh or flavorful as the Stone, but a solid strong beer. I still prefer Lagunitas Imperial Red to this one (and for less)"

The body has a reddish orange color with good clarity. It is topped off with two fingers of thick light tan foam. The head has good retention and leaves sticky lacing all over the glass as it slowly fades. The aroma is full of citrusy and lighter pine like hops with notes of grapefruit and lemon zest. Underneath the big hop presence lays a mild malt sweetness. There are nice solid hop flavors throughout with pleasant mild malt backing. Notes of citrus and piney hops mix together on the tongue with sweet bready and lightly roasted grain before finishing with a pleasant level of hop bitterness. This seems to quickly flash off the tongue. The texture is smooth with mellow carbonation.

Transfer from BA review on 6-23-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a copper color with a one finger white head. The head has a moderate level of retention fading to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is a nice blend of a hoppy citrus grapefruit mixed with a floral and pine hop smell. Along with these hoppier smells comes some aromas of a sweet caramel and a little bit of a bready and fruity smell of melon and some other lighter fruits. Taste- The taste begins with a smooth caramel and lightly bready flavor mixed with a moderately strong grapefruit hop taste. As the flavor advances sweeter tropical fruit flavors hit the tongue more toward the middle of the taste with the grapefruit losing some strength but being replaced by a mix of pine and floral hop. More toward the end, some other sweeter flavors join the now relatively stronger mix of citrus, pine and floral hop to leave a nice, moderately bitter but smoother flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average as well. Both the carbonation and the body thickness are fine of the flavor profile and made for a easy drinking brew. Overall- Not too surprising, but another good IPA by Lagunitas. A little more accentuated on the hops then some other of their brews and a little less balanced, but very tasty and enjoyable.

Big bottle. Pours a hazy light amber. Medium head. Aroma is a caramel syrup, floral hop, resin, biscuit tofee. Medium bitterness. Sugary malts. Medium heavy body. Big malt, big hop. Not that great. Maybe old skunked? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
