Commercial Description:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California's best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet's only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon's Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero's path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

22oz bottle. Pours a clear ruby red body with a very foamy and creamy, off white, inch thick head that dissipates slowly and remains very lacy. Medium sweet caramel malts and strawberry candy sugar in the aroma. A decent amount of citrusy (probably Cascade) hop backing. Flavor is pretty nice. A very full malt beginning with a light syrupy sweetness. The moderate, almost sharp, citrus bitterness then kicks in and really balances and finishes nicely. Dry and lingering. Palate is full and very smooth with a light carbonated feel. Overall, this is a great sipper. I really like the balance. Very well done.

This starts off as a gorgeous deep red color with a firm head. The nose is odd with a balance of citrus and pine along with the deep scent of hops. The palate and finsih is grand with a super complex flavor of sweet malt.

reddish brown with strong white head. nose has a lot of hops. flavor has hints of caramel malt and a nice hop bitterness but not much hop flavor. a very nice beer with a good deal of depth. -re-rate: solid hop flavor, but the large amount of munich malt and residual sweetness mutes it, while providing a malt backbone that becomes cloying after awhile. a solid beer, but either a sweeter malt profile or less residual sweetness might profile the hops and make for a better drinking experience

(bottle): Pours a very red body, clearish. Small tannish head. Grapefruity, nutty aroma. Grapefruity malty taste. Somewhat balanced. A little too piney.

I dont think Lagunitas makes a brew I dislike. Very floral, hop infused drink - borders on a strong dry IPA without being too sharp and crisp. Nice toasted malt essence to compliment the heavy citrus. Very rich and full of rustic, roasted earthy flavors. Update - The quality has taken a nose dive through the re-releases.

This is one hoppy red ale. Definitely strong on hops, but still palatable.

Piney, resinous hop aroma with lots of bready and biscuity malt; notes of oranges and Smarties (!); simple malt profile with and sharp bitter finish; some pheonelic hints; thick, silky texture.

22 oz. bomber. Dark orange with medium rocky head. Strong, hoppy aroma with lots of pineyness and grapefruit - seems like some Simcoe and maybe a rough hint of Chinook in here. Generic crystal malt notes in aroma, overshone by the quite massive hop presence. Somewhat sweet initially in flavor, transferring to a hearty drink infused with more funky, dank hoppiness. Finishes with less carbonation than expected, smooth yet bracing bitterness and a sort of malty creaminess. A nice one that I’d readily buy again. It’s an IIPA, and one of the better ones I’ve had in recent memory. For once one of Lagunitas’ good but predictable strong hoppy beers stands out a little. In my opinion, people are so used to rating everything Lagunitas makes a 3.6 that they may have glossed over this one a little.
