Commercial Description:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California's best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet's only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon's Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero's path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

22 oz. bottle on 6/15/08. Pours out a clear copper with big, rocky, beige head and a stiff, sticky lace. Fresh hoppy aroma - citrus, spice, and some herbal notes, supported by a some toffee and caramel.

Medium body and soft carbonation, mildly resinous, dry palate. A slowly building spicy bitterness with some grapefruit character overtakes a burnt caramel and dark fruity sweeetness.

Pours a thin and light amber red with a 2" eggshell colored head. The suds fade into a thin 1/4" layer leaving behind a lot of it stuck to the sides of the glass. Aromas of hops and caramel malt with a hint of some sort of grape-like fruit. Big [MONDO] hops kick in with a nice punch just as the first sip of malt dies down into the throat. It has a nice smoothness but isn’t as balanced as the aroma. It has more hops than any other Red Lager I have ever had. Not a bad thing, just unexpected. Nice sticky mouthfeel but has a great malt flavor that fits in perfect with the change of the seasons from summer to fall here in Boston! Very easy to drink! A good pick up! I think this is a good beer to have a few of and kick back with the fellas...

Tasting at Brewtopia. Amber pour wtih a mostly white and small head. Aromas of caramel, hops, dried fruit and some candy sugar. Flavor is very nice. The hops and malt combine to make a very nice tasting brew. Caramel, malt, sweet floral hops are all done very well in this beer.

Bottle. Pour a dark red with white head. Smelled fruity hoppy and slightly malty with caramel tints. Flavor was mostly hoppy with a slight malty undertone and finishes hoppy. One of the better big reds I’ve had.

Bottle. Pours amber with a lasting off white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy with fruit and caramel. The flavor is well balanced with a light malty sweetness and hoppy notes, and a nice bitter hoppy finish.

Pours deep amber with thin but foamy head. Very nice hop presence in the nose that precedes the taste. Excellent balance of malt and hop with some nice citrus, florals, and caramel. Somewhat gritty on palate for whatever reason but thin mouthfeel. Must be the carbonation. Initial hop punch that lingers nicely. Definitely one of my faves from lagunitas and a great anniversary ale.
