Trooper11 (458), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Oct 7, 2008 Slight hazy copper with average tan head. Wonderful aroma of sweet caramel. Wow, big bitter astringent bite that kind of took me back, a dry feel, solid bitter burn all the way down.
onecrazybreeze (21), , Colorado, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Pour a dark red with white head. Smelled fruity hoppy and slightly malty with caramel tints. Flavor was mostly hoppy with a slight malty undertone and finishes hoppy. One of the better big reds I’ve had. blipp (937), Grand Island, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber with a lasting off white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy with fruit and caramel. The flavor is well balanced with a light malty sweetness and hoppy notes, and a nice bitter hoppy finish. 3Faveryrogue (3), Asslip, Illinois, USA does not count Nov 20, 2008 Pours deep amber with thin but foamy head. Very nice hop presence in the nose that precedes the taste. Excellent balance of malt and hop with some nice citrus, florals, and caramel. Somewhat gritty on palate for whatever reason but thin mouthfeel. Must be the carbonation. Initial hop punch that lingers nicely. Definitely one of my faves from lagunitas and a great anniversary ale. BMan1113VR (1122), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle thanks to Turdfurguson. Nice Imperial Red. Pours with a large, foamy, off-white head and a clear bronze body. Head leeaves good lacing. Aroma of caramel, hops, brown sugar and dark fruit. Taste is hoppy with some caramel, a bit of pepper and raisins. A bit on the fizzy side of things. zach8270 (1460), Henrietta, New York, USA Nov 19, 2008 (bottle - 22 oz) Rich red color with a very thick white head. Aroma is nice and hoppy with a good citrus hint at the end. Some caramel malts. Flavor begins with a nice citrus flavor rolling around the tongue that gives way quickly to a very floral and hoppy middle and a slightly dry and bitter hop finish. Bitterness lingers for a while.
