COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mondo Large Red Ale
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of Californiaís best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planetís only legal Steam Beer, and Oregonís Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the heroís path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

Pours an amber with a medium head. The nose is caramel maltiness with an resiny hop. Comes across the palate is malt, caramel and a medium to light citrus hop. Overall its a decent brew, just lacks the hop kick.

Poured from bottle into tulip glass. Pours orange amber with head and lace. Aroma of grains, malts, hops. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of rich grains, malts, rye, bitter herbs, burnt caramel, brown sugar. Overall bold, rich, and while somewhat bitter itís nevertheless quite tasty. Easy to drink more than one!

tightslice (789) - Redwood City, California, USA - MAY 28, 2016
Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is toasted sugar, brown sugar, caramel, butterscotch, marmalade. Tons of malty sugars but not cloying and evenly balanced by the hops. Solid example of an ASA.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with nice off white head. Nose is brown sugar, grain and alcohol. Taste adds some bitterness. Kind of like a nice barleywine.

Lucky 13 is in line with the other American Strong Ales made by Lagunitas in that itís a hop-forward, West Coast approach to the style. Also, itís excellent, so it has that in common with their other Strong Ales, too. Amber pour with off-white suds. A lot lacing left behind after each sip. Hoppy resin aromatics: woodsy, spicy, zesty, citrusy, and herbaceous. Thereís a caremel malt backbone but the flavor definitely sides with citrusy hops. Pineapple, mango, passionfruit, and orange. Very crisp feel. For me, this is the right mix of boozy and bitter. A beautiful example of a catch-all American style.

Aroma is caramel, resin earthy hops. Appearance is orange copper clear with a frothy off white head that lingers. Taste is deep caramel malt followed closely by a firm bitterness. Caramel malt almost roasted, has real depth. Earthy resin-y hops, mint? Palate is medium plus. Alcohol heat is barely there. Overall a nice beer. Malt forward. Malt has big impressive depth but I find myself looking for more from the hops. Still a nice beer but probably wouldnít buy again.

Pours a clear coppery orange with a huge fluffy off white head. Light pine aroma. Taste is semi sweet citrus, malts, and a hint of bitterness. Medium body. Fairly smooth and enjoyable. Similar to Fat Headís Bone Head Red but not quite as good.

Pours a clear copper color. Thin soapy large bubbles head. A bright hoppy aroma with hints of cat urine. A tart malty flavor with a bright hop finish.

Sweet, caramel and nutty flavours dominate, also dough. Long lasting flavour, but Iíd like more balance from hops.

Bottle acquired at Elevated in South Mpls and consumed on ECBT Eve with commonshawn and samadouche. Reddish orange, almost copper in color. Big, bold white head with strong to very strong lacing. Aroma is mostly sweet with a hoppy, pine characteristic present. Taste incorporates plenty of sugars that really serve to balance (and nearly exceed) the hoppy red qualities of the beer. This one is crisp, sweet, and delicious. There is an earthy, almost apple-like feel within this one. Finish mirrors what youíd find in most Lagunitas efforts...nice hop quality. Iím happy to find the Lucky 13 back in the rotation again.

Poured into wet snifter a reddish orange with healthy head. Heavy red for sure, strong with an interesting bite at the finish...almost soapy with its deep tingle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
