Rocky lite tan 1" head ... left nice rings of lace... deep brown beer .. with crystal clear dark ruby highlites. Not much in the way of hops (suprising for Lagunitas) .. chocolate and caramel and mild yeasty fruitiness... nice toasty elements. Flavor is all the malts ... brown malts ... more toasty than chocolate .. a little nuttiness. a little caramel... I wouldn’t call this an American Brown .. more like an amped up English ... there isn’t a whole lot in the way of hops going on... fairly thick for an American brown .. good carbonation.

22oz bottle pours a reddy brown color with a bit of head. Nice malty aroma. Lots of malt and some fruitiness.

Pours copper in color with a sandy head. The aroma has pretty much died at this point, the yeast is mostly spent bringing some raw dough yeast. The flavor brings malts, sweetness has died. There is no hop profile at all either, obviously. The body has remained as it should.

This one probably got an extra point for the cool Zappa pic on the front of it, but not a bad american strong ale.

Thanks to coleman! Deep amber pour with a small white head. Aroma is tomato juice, sugar malts, and dark fruits. Probably a little oxidized. But it's not too bad.

A dark amber beer with a bit of off-white head on top. There is a nice caramel and toffee sweetness with a touch of cocoa and dark fruit. Definitely a bit of oxidation, but not really the cardboard variety. Just a touch of citrus peel on the flavor to go with some other sweeter fruits like raisins. A bit of chocolate/cocoa, toffee, and caramel. Some subtle oxidation, but like the nose, nothing that really detracts from the beer.

650mL bottle poured a deep amber color with a big off-white head that left some spotted lacing behind. Aroma of lightly roasted malts and caramel. Big malty sweet taste with some hints of chocolate and a mild hoppy bitterness in the finish. Nicely carbonated, but the body is a little thin leaving a little disappointing mouthfeel. A good beer, but nothing special.

Fitfully off-kilter for a Zappa-inspired ale. The sweetness takes hold as soon as the liquid hits your palate, delving into near sweet-tea territory, before gaining a British fruit/nut/yeast backbone that does nothing to alleviate the cloying flavors piling up on your tongue. The American Brown Ale finish you so desire never comes along, leaving you with a pint much too sweet to savor. (1/09)

Bottle shared with jerc & mabel - Dec 22/08. Sunset amber-red with a small off-white head. Fairly sweet aroma - brown sugar and barley candy - with fruity, apricot-accented hops. Flavour is big and balanced, with interesting fruit notes, and a slightly astringent finish. Booze comes through a bit strong as it ends as well.

Still trying to become #1 Lagunitas rater. If someone stumbles upon this while looking over Lagunitas stuff, and you have Lag brews I’ve not rated, hit me up! This was fun to crack open and share, but definitely past its prime. Nose sweet malty. Taste oxidized but drinkable.
