Clear brownish-ruby beer with a decent off-white head that leaves nice lace. Aroma is mostly roast malt. Flavor is much the same, with perhaps some sweet caramel maltiness, the presence of hops is just barely felt in a somewhat bitter finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery. Not a terribly complicated brew, I would call it a brown ale, which is not a compliment.

22 ounce bottle. This is my 50th rating of a beer that has been jammed in to the ASA category that is not really a catagory. Pours brown with some red hues. No real head. Aromas of toffee, chocoate, and pine hops. The flavor is pretty chocoatey and roasty, with some hop character, but its very muddled and messy. Watery. High carbonation. Dry finish.

A strange offering from Lagunitas, as it seems like a relatively tame, ordinary brown ale. Pours a dull brown copper color with a very nice, large head. Lots of lacing, and lots of active carbonation. Very muted smell- notes of sweetbread syrupy malt. Flavor is toned down as well- middling bitterness, some floral hop notes, toasted brown bread and some caramel sweetness. Very well balanced, but not so interesting. Very smooth and even on the palate.

Bottle. Pours a deep red amber with an off white head. Aroma is of sweet malt, caramel and brown sugar. Taste is the same along with a mild dark fruit presence and a bitter finish. Pretty good overall.

~Pours a dark amber colour with small off white head. ~Strong, sweet, malty scent with a bit of chocolate and raisin ~Medium hops in flavor and mild sweetness. A bit earthy/ashy, but not too much. ~Medium bodied with nice bitter finish ~This is a great sipping brew. Good scent and interesting flavors.

Nice amber/copper coloured body with a lightish red tint at the bottom with a perfect sized tan head. Aroma of robust malt, light hops and a ton of nuts - more like an amber than anything else. Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour with raisins and pit fruits very strong in the taste, followed by alcohol and a bit of very light hops. Aftertaste shows some nuts and a bit of malt, along with the alcohol. Overall, a good beer - more like an imperial brown than anything else. Good to try and worth it for the price! (US$3.79 for bottle). I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Whole Foods in San Francisco (4th Ave.), California on 02-June-2008.

Very dark brown/caramel beer. Nice head retention. The head is a slight caramel color. I honestly thought I was buying the Kill Ugly Radio just with a different label. I am pretty dumb for being that oblivious to what was going on. Color looks nice for an APA. Lagunitas heavily filters their beer, which I don’t mind, but it seems to be very transparent to me. Good looking beer with a nice head. Caramel malt aroma is there. The beer has a lot of dark fruit aroma. I definitely smell the dates. The beer is pretty aromatic, but the dates are very potent. Smell a little like candy and brown sugar. The hop smell doesn’t exist in this beer. Nice aroma but very one sided. Caramel, toffee, and dark fruits again in the taste. The aroma hop not there, the flavor hop not really there either, but the bittering hop is great. The bittering hop leaves a nice bitter flavor in my mouth a few mintues after I finish. The malt sweetness is there too. This beer is nice and smooth. I think the fruit flavor does not balance well with the hops. I wish there was a better balance in the flavor. Overall, a nice beer with a great fruit smell and a nice hop taste, now if they could only get the hops in the aroma, and the fruits in the taste, this beer would be amazing. Decent brew.

650ml brown bottle. Dark brown coloured beer, modest but creamy off white head. Spotty lace. Malty aroma, quite nutty with some toffee. Flavour is of dark and nutty malts, sponge candy. Trace hops in the finish with lasting malts. Decent beer, not terribly exciting.
