22oz bottle. Aroma was sweet fruity hops like an IPA at first then by finish a sweet malted well whatever. Amber body with off white head. Flavor started out good. Second glass seemed to loose all the hoppy zip first one had. Malted sweet syrup sugary thickness. Man it was like drinking two different beers.

Pours with a clear, deep amber body topped by a medium thick head with good lacing. It’s sweet and malty wiht a slight candy sugar note, a little tomato and a hint of hops. Medium bodied, smooth and a hint dry.

Pours beautiful coppery-red. Initial bitter taste (yeast and alcohol), moves into hoppy and metallic, and finishes slightly watery. I could not detect significant nutty notes in the malt taste (which was how this beer was referred to me).

Bottle. Body-looks like an American String Ale. Dark tawny brown with a loose foamy head and medium lacing. Nose-rotten fruit juice, wet corn flakes, cardboard, husk, low key unsweet stale sticky hops, light sweet garbage water, cantaloupe, cereal, lots and lots of malt, wet cereal, malt, and a touch of hops. Not a particularly good beer.

Blankboys bottle! Shared with HogTownHarry, Tupalev and Blankboy. Thanks Paul! Appearance: Ruby red, smallish off white head. Aroma: Sweet toffee, hop and malt. Flavour: Sweet & bitter, dry and malty, some sweetness, like brown sugar and cola. Sweet dry finish. Enjoyable. Thanks for sharing Paul.

22 oz bottle, from BevMo LaJolla. Pours a deep chestnut color with clear reddish highlights when held to light and a moderate beige head. Aroma is roasty and gruity, molasses and raspberry notes, coffee and floral hops. Roasty, coffee flavors, just ripe prune, florals and light spice, woody notes, dandelion milk, nice roasty bitter finish. Medium body and pleasant carbonation.

Dark mahogany bodied ale with constant carbonation throughout sample. Malt and bread yeast are the guts of Lumpy Gravy. Vengeance is theirs over bitterness, however, my palate embraced the flavor. Question comes to mind, was Zappa a beer drinker or is Lagunitas just huge fans of his work? And could there ever be a GWAR inspired series of beers? ’Scumdogs of the Universe’ may make a great barleywine.
