I always expect a bitter brew from Lagunitas, but this one was hardly that. It was nice and thick with a malty backbone. A pretty good brew. ccoburn (22), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 Pours dark amber/brown with quickly diminishing cream head. Aroma of biscuit and caramel. Taste is surprisingly hoppy as there was nothing similar in the nose. Amber malts and a bit of alcohol towards the end. Not bad, but I’m glad I got only one bottle just because it’s not my favorite kind of beer. Good to try. Braudog (3752), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2008 Bottle: Poured with a gigantic head, 1/2 of the initial volume, over a rusty red-brown beer. The aroma is somewhat nutty. This drinks with surprisingly little overt big flavors, particularly for a 7% beer. Instead, this drinks with just a moderate caramel malt body, and maybe just a light sting at the finish. Scarily easy to drink for a strong beer. (#3444, 5/2/2008) travita (1892), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2008 Red in color and clear with nice beige head. Smells of alcohol, sweet, and hops. Taste is bitter, hops, bubble gum, grains, and malts. MesandSim (5819), London, Greater London, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle at Chris_O’s Ha Ha Ha Ha Gimme the Cheese Tasting. An excellent red amber colour with a good white head and yet again (3rd Lagunitas Zappa beer of the night) really good condition. Pleasant chocolate malt aroma with a fair bit of cereal but it doesn’t spoil it any. Nice wheaty and malty flavour with some alcohol showing but not too much. Very rich but just about balances in the end thanks to a hint of citric hops at the finish. Another good Zappa tribute from Lagunitas. Another big thanks to His Royal Highness HogTownHarry. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Upon pouring this beer I expected a hoppy beer. But to my surprise it was sweet and malty with just a hint of bitter. Went down smooth and all in all a good beer. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

Aromas of vegetal hops and sweet dark caramel malt. Malt-forward flavors of brown sugar and tangy bread, with enough hops bitterness and flavor to keep it from being relegated to the generic "brown ale" moniker. Tasty, very drinkable, but a bit one-dimensional. Come on, it’s Zappa, throw me somethin’ _weird_!
