22 oz bomber: Pours a copperish color with ruby tones and a small tan head. Has a roasty sweet hoppy aroma. Malty flavor is bready, sweet, with some spices thrown in. Has a mild bitter finish that is refreshing.

22 oz bottle. Really nice ruby red with decent head on the pour. Aromas were sweet fruit hops. Flavors were more malty with still hoppy citrus on the finish. Not too bad.

Gotta love Frank Zappa beers, although I don’t think is one of Lagunitas’ best. It’s a nice malty beer, with a slight sweet/scotch ale flavor to it. Very drinkable.

Very nice looking - dark orange thick fluffy and rocky head. Nutty bread dough aroma along with some sweet bock-like notes of brown sugar, raisins. Palate is smooth, rich, malty, with some pine. Very impressive. I don’t get the booziness others noted.

Bottle. Pours a murky brownish color with an off-white head. Nose is roasted and sweet. Flavor is very coffee. Admitedly, not one of my favorite beer nuances and not one that I was anticipating here. I guess they liked a little suagr in their coffee as there was a caramely sweetness. but the bitterness of the brew shown through as well. Clearly, not one of my favorites at all.

Pours a nice clear copper with a small tan head. Semi-sweet aromas of caramel, molasses, and alcohol. Flavor is mostly of roasted caramel, with a solid backbone of bitter/herbal hops, a good bit of peppery spice towards the finish, and a bit of alcohol. Palate is medium/full, spicy, resinous, and boozy.

Clear amber with lots of... is this right? Did I actually scribble down "floating bubbles"??? Smells like a hospital, no wait... maybe like someone’s skin? What in the heck is wrong with my nose? Taste is fruity but a little spicy. Thin, an easy strong ale.

Lagunitas Lumpy Gravy is a dense, crystal clear, coppery red ale topped with a fluffy beige head that has big oily bubbles, good retention and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is a little sweet and pretty spicy. Alcohol is present in the nose, as are green, grassy hops and perhaps curacao or bergamot. The aroma elements are very well blended. It is pretty full bodied, foamy and a bit sharp on the tongue. The finish is a little silty. The flavor is very well blended and balanced. The malt seems light and grainy at first. It then slowly descends to a thick, boozy aftertaste. The hops provide the right amount of leafy, grassy bitterness. There is nothing incredibly stand-out about this, but it’s a good, solid American strong ale that I would drink again.
