| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Best beer so far in the Zappa series, hella malty and darker than the other previous Zappa beers. Pretty decent winter style beer. I almost liked it better in the bottle than off draft. I might try aging some of this to see how does. Zappa was crazy as fuck and I hope the next beer in the Zappa series is also CRAZY AS FUCK!!!! Good beer but could be better... bleeng (597), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bomber. Dark brown, filtered, thick white head. Nose is thickish, malty, chocolately, faint hop profile (for Lagunitas). Taste is at first malty, then mellow hops and thick, caramely, chocolate overtones. A bit cold now, I think this will warm up nicely. Best of the Zappa beers so far. rudolf (1758), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Mucho thanks to Swoopjones. Rich ruby honey body, thin tan head. Nose is honey, cocoa, soy, buttery hops. Flavor is cocoa, light burnt malt, lots of caramel & a good amount of bitterness. Interesting cocoa nuttiness in the finish along with plenty of hops. I agree with Harry, the whole is better than it’s parts. HogTownHarry (3990), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, biegaman, Rudolf and swoopjones - swoop’s bottle. Again, thanks for the share - as always, you’re too generous, M. Poured bright clear copper with an average frothy tan head. Odd aroma to it - strong candy sugar jumbled with dry herbal bitterness and an odd salty note that others thought seemed a bit like soy sauce. The taste jumped sideways on me, alcohol, dry generic resin bitterness and burnt sugar. Average at best body, astringent and carbonized through the finish into the aftertaste. Oddly, I enjoyed theis in toto more than its components. bma4573 (136), Mechanicsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Poured an nice dark amber color from a bottle. This was my first American Strong Ale, and I really enjoyed it. Of course I’m not very familiar with the style so there’s probably better ones out there. To me it was like a cross between a American Pale and an Amber ale. Anyway I enjoyed it and will for more beers of this style. I welcome recommendations from those of you who are more familiar with American Strong Ales. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2008 A nice and drinkable American strong, but a little too typical for Lagunitas. Their beers all taste the same to me and this is no different. Aroma of grassy hops. Pour was a deep ruby with a one finger off white head. Taste was the usual Lagunitas affair. Caramel and roasted malt in the front and a strong bitter hoppy aftertaste. This is just like their IPA with more malt. Good and drinkable, but too predictable. stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Dark amber pour with an ok head and some lacing. Malty nose. A balance of malts and hops on the tongue. Decent mouthfeel. Flavor improved as it warmed. It grew on me and I’d drink it again.
