JF_GRIND (1199), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2008 Dark mahogany bodied ale with constant carbonation throughout sample. Malt and bread yeast are the guts of Lumpy Gravy. Vengeance is theirs over bitterness, however, my palate embraced the flavor. Question comes to mind, was Zappa a beer drinker or is Lagunitas just huge fans of his work? And could there ever be a GWAR inspired series of beers? ’Scumdogs of the Universe’ may make a great barleywine.
mmhnto (29), Lisle, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2008 Wrote a nice review for this one which RateBeer promptly "ate". This bottle was probably oxidized. I’ve had this beer before and loved it. The_Captain (251), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle- Copper brown pour with foam off white head. Love FZ but not necessarily the beer. However, it was rather refreshing and like moses mentioned reminded me of a belgian. Some spice and hops with a dry hop finish. Decent body and a good blend. benwa420 (32), Aspen, Colorado, USA Jul 16, 2008 out the bottle. Pours semi dark amber color with a thin white hesd. A little spice to th taste along with hops. nice finish almost floral but not fruity. Good job Lagunitas The_Beer_God (2804), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 Bottle. Copper pour with a short fizzy tan head. Nose is caramel, soft fruit, spices, sweet malts and almost dessert-like. Taste is hoppy, spicy, slight floral with yeast notes, caramel, sweet malts, and dark fruit. Body is thick and slightly creamy with some lingering bitterness. Carbonation is moderate. Finishes with more sweet malts, caramel, spices, soft hops and dark fruit notes. Tasty! drjay44 (80), USA Jul 9, 2008 Exhuberant creamy head, which gradually disappears, rich lacing, pleasant dark color, nose inviiting, but not floral, rather more hop than malt, and not very complex which is a disapointment. The mouth feel is wonderful.
