Reddish amber appearance with a small tan head and decent lacing. Soft fruit, caramel and toffee in the sweet malt aroma. Taste starts the same way, but floral hops quickly saturate the palate. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with a dry, bitter, lingering finish.

Another Lagunita’s release with a Zappa theme, Lumpy gravy came out reddish brown in color, and had a small one finger thick head that was very persistent. The aroma was toasty and malty, which was departure from the heavily hopped beers I have come to expect from this brewery. The taste was hard to pin down in terms of focus. At times it seemed malty and nutty like a Brown Ale, while others it tended towards being mineralized and crisp like a Bitter. The beer felt rich and stick in the mouth, but the incoherent taste came through again in an aftertaste wavering between sweet and metallic. Glad I got to try this one, but I’ve had better offerings from them before.

Amber colour with a beige head. malty, caramel sweet aroma with vanilla / oak notes and hints of fruit and alcohol. malty, toffee sweet flavor with fruity and hoppy bitter notes.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear dark brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex caramel malt and tart fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

22oz bottle. Poured a deeper amberish / orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of toasted caramel, chocolate, lightly roasty, and some dark fruitiness. Tastes of toffee, light chocolate, nuts, and lighter dark fruits.

22 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear deep mohogany color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Aroma is floral and light citrus hops with some light toasted caramel malt hiding in the back. Lacing is light with tiny spots. Flavor is toasted malt with some light citrus hops. Medium body. No lingering aftertaste. Fairly well balanced. I was hoping for more hops. Oh well, it’s still pretty good.

Botte #14 at Papsoes blindtasting. Clear orange red coloured with a medium sized off white head. Sweet aroma of malts, caramel and dried fruits with notes of rye bread and burnt sugar. Sweet flavour of malts, caramel, fruits and rye bread with notes of alcohol, dried fruits and hops. Hoppy and warming alcoholic finish.
