chokmah33 (102), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 4, 2008 Updated: Jun 14, 2008 Sweet grainy buttery popcorn and banana aroma. Piney boquet.
Oily texture. Lively carb, diverse palate has a lingering finish.
Taste of cherries and toffee malts living in harmony with grapefruit and pine hops. Nutty bitter finish.
I love these Zappa beers, they are underated.
luv_casks (171), USA Aug 27, 2008 pours a shine amber with brown highlights and nice than persistent head leaving really nice lacing.
Nose of nice caramel a touch of alcohol and some dates in the aroma.
Tastes really similar to what is smells like - caramel with spicy and pithy hope flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodies with a creamy notes
Finish is dry, creamy and lingers for a bit with some spicy hop flavor and caramel notes.
Overall: For a limited release comes across as a huge amber with accent on dark crystal malts saving grace being the hops are present to eliminate the cloying effect. Methinks the caramel notes make it hard to enjoy a full pint of this...Skips along the line of being a little brother to a barleywine - feels stronger in alcohol than the 7.2% - some aging may make it like an old ale or little brother of the Gnarlywine. mrant (245), New York, USA Aug 24, 2008 Smells of nice strong malts and alcohol. Pours a dark amber color with a thick brown head. Taste is bitter hops with a nice light malt flavor. Very tasty eli723 (8), USA does not count Aug 20, 2008 Too much malt. Way heavy thick beer. Sure there are some flavors in there that pop out but it’s not fun to drink more than a glass of this. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a medium sized off white head. Aroma is noticeably nutty, light biscuit malts. I found the taste to be very pleasent, not that stroner- a lighter mouthfeel with semi sweet flavors of trail mix, carmel and peanut butter. NomDeBeer (143), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 Very smooth and drinkable. A well-balanced beer with flavors of caramel, peat, and a touch of hoppy bitterness.
