COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!

Not being privey to many Yankee IIPA’s, comparisons are few and far beetween. This one just seemed a little to soft and restrined compared with other tried in the past. No tounge fuzzing bitterness, and the hop aroma seemed a little one dimensional

22 oz bottle. Pours fairly light orange/copper with minimal white head. Decent aroma of sweet hops (grapefruit/the usual) with some malt to back it up. Same for the palate. A tad thin. Not a creamy as I like my IIPA’s Decent balance between hops and malt. Average IIPA, but still better that your everyday beer.

Rated 3/8/07: Was able to get a couple 12 oz bottles from one of my regular stops. While I find this to be a nicely crafted IPA, it doesn’t appeal very highly to me. Hearty hop presence but they seem to act more as a bittering agent thus lacking in the flavoring department. Thick golden copper pour with a one and a half finger head and thick lacing, looks solid. Thicker mouthful than the standard IPA it came across as chewy which I liked but the finish is a touch soapy. Aroma is bitter with a lackluster citrus scent, malt is bready. Flavor is pretty good but like I said before I look forward to a more floral citrus bouquet in my IPA’s, this one is malty and bitter. Resinous and thick I like the malt content but long for more grapefruit and pine flavors.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2008 bottle- clear, copper color. piney pnw hops that smell great. Taste is very imperial like, with caramel malts dominating a bit. Still some bitterness, but nothing drastic. Pretty well balanced. Given other brews available in this style, I would not go back to this as an option anytime soon. draft- 06/08- enjoyed this quite a bit more on draft as the hop flavor really shined. re-rate bottle- 07/08- again,, liked this considerably more than the earlier rating stated. would absolutely go to this again.

Appearance: Pours a clear, light copper color with a white-colored head. Smell: Sharp, sweet pine hop aroma with notes of caramel. Taste: Firm citrus, grapefruit flavors with a small amount of caramel left to balance out the hops. Hints of bread dough. Very dry, bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Thin, but a bit oily, as well. Drinkability: This one wasn’t for me. Thin to a fault, and the malt flavor could be more distinct.

22 oz bomber shared with rebelbeerguy. Poured a hazy orangeish/amber with a small off white head. Aroma was flowers, pine and some caramel malt in the background. Flavor was a little weak compared to the aroma but pleasant none the less. Pretty good beer all around.

Clear orange color, short head. Aroma of sweet malt, grapefruit, hop, some candy sugar, pines. Quite bitter taste, moderate sweet, fruity as well. Quite complex. Not just hoppy. Very nice stuff.

Amber in color big malty hop aroma followed by citrus aromas. Super sweet for a DIPA, not at all bitter. Malty sweetness, lightly carbonated. Highly drinkable, unusually so for a DIPA. Yummy and enjoyable in quantity.

Orange/amber in color, fairly good sized foamy white head that lingers. Aroma is citris, caramel an date/raisin fruitiness. Nice big hop punch folwed by somewhat of a chewy caramel flavor. Medium body which is not typical of most DIPAs. Also a bit of warmth detected in the finish. Overall a very good beer.
