elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Now this is more like it . . . you go, Barry! Pours orange yellow with a medium head. Aroma heavy on flowers, ripe orange, and malt. Flavor is classic Lagunitas: heavy on the malt, but you can tell that some quality hops are present as well. Overall, I prefer Maximus to Lagunitas many ASA-style “red” beers. Yes, it was too malty for me, and yes, I STILL do not think Lagunitas’ beers have a very desirable palate, but at least the flavor on this one was tasty all the way down. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 19, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. A mother of a IPA. Warms as it goes down. Yum hops on the nose, same in the flavor. Very sweet but balanced finish. Kick-ass IPA. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2008 poured a copper/amber colour with a creamy off white head that laced well.
Aroma was awesome citrus-pine. Plenty of caramel maltiness backing that up. A slightly sticky sweet piney alc. finish.
tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Oct 30, 2008 Clear red body with a disappating white head. Floral hops balanced with caramel malts. Easier drinking compared to many in the IPA family. Not as hoppy given this is a west coast brewer. I think this might fit better into the American Strong Ale category. A solid brew, just isn’t so memorable. kosko20 (302), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Oct 28, 2008 Beautiful clear golden pour, thick white head. Aroma is similar to other west coast IPA’s, citrus and floral hops. Flavor is lightly hoppy and bitter of same citrus and floral notes. Great all around brew. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Oct 28, 2008 In Bostom after game four of the ALCS (Tampa Bay).
Lagunitas Maximus Imperial IPA is a deep amber color with creamy khaki head. The aroma and flavor are both sweet and bitter with malty bases. This is a fantastic beer with a serious bite. MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Oct 26, 2008 [Bottle] Pours clear deep gold with a small off white head. Huge pine and grapefruit nose with a touch of malt. Flavor is slightly bitter, piney and citric, with a medium mouthfeel. tdaglow (41), Minnesota, USA Oct 23, 2008 Big hop but a slightly sweat aroma. Golden amber color. Big hops but well balanced flavor, with an alomost creamy texture.
