At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!

Saturated orange color with a frothy white head. Aroma is sweet and earthy, and reminds me of snus (Swedish snuff). Taste is earthy and hoppy with some muscovado sugar. Nice balance betweet swetness and hops.

I’ll agree with many out there who say that this brew has too much malt character. There’s too much sweetness which can be a huge problem if enough of your carbonation and bubbles are gone. As it warms this beer becomes too heavy and doesn’t resemble the great beer it can be. Not a favorite of mine.

Enjoyed a six-pack of this. Pours rich orange with nice clarity. Aroma is all pine and caramel malt. Flavor packs a orange, lightly caramel punch with nice bitterness and relatively high carbonation. Drinks nicely.

Poured copper yellow color and an off-white lacing head. Fairly light aroma, some floral notes with grapefruit and caramel. Medium dense body and carbonation. Sweet taste with a dry, hoppy finish.

There are some who would say this is not a IIPA because it is only 7.5% alcohol. I think that says something about where the beer scene in the United States is. I don’t think what it says is bad; I just think it says something. Anyway, this IIPA is on the light side alcohol wise but has plenty of hops and more than enough malt to earn its style designation if you ask me. It might even have too much malt character, not that that’s a bad thing. It’s a clear orange color, head is small and of mostly large bubbles--not really what I look for but not entirely unappealing. Big pine hops dominate the nose. I am more of a citrus hop kind of guy but this is still good. It also has a fruity melon malt and ale yeast quality that I generally associate w/ barleywines. This is definitely not a one dimensional beer. There is real malt character here. Whether or not that is appropriate to the style is up to personal taste but I like it just fine. The fine carbonation cuts it and keeps it from cloying, allowing the hops to shine just as much. It all works rather well and while I do think the best IIPAs have that "oops, I just drank a half gallon of really strong ale like it was Sierra Nevada pale ale" quality, I can appreciate one like this that makes you take your time on it. I feel like it tastes bigger than it actually is and that is always a worthy accomplishment in my book.

Pours a nice clear amber with a quickly disappearing white foam. Aroma is grapefruit and pine hop. Taste is a blast of hop bitterness, followed by citrus and mild malt mouthfeel. Tastes like an IPA on roids, which I suppose it’s meant to me. Good beer but not the best DIPA I’ve had.

Great IPA. Complex malty start moving into a resiny/grassy hop finish/. High gravity with excellent mouthfeel. All the complexity I expect from such a brewery.

$10.99/6 pack. Whole Foods. San Antonio, TX. A golden-orange beer with an average 1 finger head. The aroma is sweet, very nice and piney, citrus-orange, peach, grapefruit. A nice and pleasant aroma. A nice malt taste that can be sweet at the front but at the end of the drink the hop flavors come in with peach, pine, and orange. Reminds me somewhat of Modus just a little more sweet and bitter.
