aroma of sweet hoppy goodness, and hop flavor that is strong but not too bitter. nice carbonation and decent mouthfeel, more bitter aftertaste that requires another sip to cool it down. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Jun 3, 2008 Orange/copper without much of a head, but it is there. Nice citrusy hops on the nose, but they werent as strong as I was expecting. Body is quenching but not a complete thunderfunking slam of hops in my mouth- which ordinarily is ok for me but I was in the mood for my face to be melted. That said, this was still a well constructed and balanced brew, worth returning to. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA Jun 2, 2008 From a 22 oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is full of fruity and citrus hops, some pineapple. Color is a honey golden amber with a thick head that stays. Very clear. Slightly sweet at first, but completely overtaken by the hop bitterness. More pineapple, citrus hop flavor. Finish is dry with a lingering bitterness. Light for the strength, and not overly sweet. A great Double IPA. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 29, 2008 This beer pours and orange-amber colour, with a finger sized white head thats hopping with citrusy hops. I will agree with other posts however that its not as Maximus full of hops as I imagined, yet still very good. Lots of citrus fruit, grapefruit and lemons. Dogbrick (2813), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 29, 2008 Sample at Barley’s Smokehouse. This beer is a hazy light amber color with a thin light beige head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing. The aroma is hoppy with some caramel malt. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops and spice flavors, along with some sweet malt and grapefruit underneath. The finish is fruity and hoppy with a lightly bitter aftertaste. Does not pack as much punch as I would expect in a IIPA. Slightly above average overall. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA May 28, 2008 Pours a clear, light orange color with a decent, frothy, barely off-white head. Aroma is hops, slightly musky. Beer goes down as the head sticks to my upper lip... hoppy, but leaves a tame aftertaste. Light/medium body. Something feels and tastes lacking. Not sure what it is. With a name like "IPA Maximus" I was expecting a bit more. But still, not bad for an IPA. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 28, 2008 Bomber. Pours a crystal clear amber with three finger off-white head and a bunch of carbonation with nice lacing. Nose is floral hops, tangerine and pine. Palate is floral, citrus, sweet malts and a non-lingering dry bitter pine finish. Medium mouth feel - not a bad DIPA – one of the better Lagunitas beers I’ve had. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 Max pours copper with small yellow-white head. Nose is strong with a beautiful balance, and the flavor follows as such, but neither is complex. Overall, perhaps a little watery and flat, but still enjoyable.
