3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2010
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Fire Works.
It pours a clear amber orange with a small foamy white head. Big tropical and citrus notes hit you in the nose. Some tangerine and papaya for sure. The taste is a mix of pineapple, fruit juice, grapefruit peel, lots of pale malt sweetness. A little short in the body department though. Medium-light mouthfeel with medium carbonation and a long bitter finish. It’s a real punisher with the hops but an elixer for all the hop heads.

From a 22oz bottle...
Pours a gorgeous dark orange color, with a huge amount of head. The look is very hazy and cloudy, which in turn makes it look thick and hearty. Looks perfect actually. Leaves a huge swath of lace.
The scent is a heavy bitter-hop smell. Very very bitter indeed. But there is also a sweet, flowery secondary aroma that comes off. It’s nicely balanced by a dry malt, and the pale malt aroma comes in nicely.
Majorly, massively bitter hop flavor. It’s halfway between a regular IPA and an Imperial IPA. Quite bitter, with a sweeter, estery aftertaste. Tastes more Imperial as it warms.
It feels thick and even a bit bubbly. Leaves a bitter film at the very end. Boy does that bitterness keep a’comin’. A strong Imperial IPA, yet quite drinkable; a feat in itself.

A superb IPA. well rounded in every way, bitter, malt alcohol balance. Perfect for the summer.

Bottled@The 1st Vaasa CS/ES beer session (thanks JS). Deep orange colour with small slightly off-white head. Aroma is bigtime pine, fruits, some slight grassyness as well. Flavour is quite much the same. Big time hoppyness, but still in a quite good balance.

Pours amber with a white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus and grapefruit. Flavour follows the nose.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BroSpud (1124) - , Massachusetts, USA - MAR 3, 2010
12oz bottle. For some reason I wasn’t all that impressed with the regular Lagunitas IPA but this version is not bad at all. Pours a hazy golden color with a white head and decent lacing. Alcohol is "only" 7.5 so it’s on the low side for an imperial which results in a very drinkable IPA. In addition to the citrus and pine there is a nice sweetness to this one.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 williamstome (411) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 1, 2010
Golden orange. Nice citrus and pine scents, with a hoppy, bit bitter flavor. I was a little worried looking at it bc it looked a bit soapy, but it was actually a good feel, and tasty!

Buddy brought this over while we were brewing. Poured a Golden color. Slightly dark for a traditional IPA, but not terrible. Smells malty for an IPA. Well balanced. Hop character wasn’t overpowering, but a great malt back ground. I could drink more of these.
