IPAsavedMYlife (32), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Feb 28, 2008 Updated: Mar 7, 2008Wow, what an underrated IPA. Pours a beautiful reddish golden color. filtered. Head is slightly orange with a good consistency. Very tastey head. Great mouth-feel and bang of hops. A very good well rounded IPA. The raging hops calm for a flowery aftertaste. I drank a Two Hearted Ale right after and it seemed to bring out all of the flaws of the Bells. Not even in the same ball park as other Imperials. Thou shalt not drink IPA with less then 7% or more then 9% lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Feb 24, 2008 Nice fresh DIPA, although it wasn’t as thick as some, which helps the fresh-ness come through. Lots of grapefruit in the whole bottle. Mild and drinkable through all the hops, which gets it another point or two. Balance is very good. Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 22, 2008 An orange amber color with some sediment in the pour. Decent head with good lacing. Smell is strong citrus and piney notes. That taste as a good bite at the top and quickly is backed with a really sweet malt. The bite remains but there are little aroma hops backing it up. Metallic notes are present but mostly grapefruit and dry finish. Limited balance as the bitterness of the beer takes over but overall a good tasting beer. I would like to see less of a sweeter malt to it and more aroma hops but I really enjoyed this beer. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 22, 2008 bottles from Beerlando and Liquid solutions. Pours clear amber with a nice offwhite and lasting head in a tulip. Smell is caramel mostly and a slighty hoppy twinge to it, but it is very understated for a double IPA. Perhaps the hops have just faded. Flavors of caramel and tea like hops. Mild bitterness, thin, yet syrupy sweet at times. Decent, I guess, but needs more hops, unless this is an old bottle... ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Feb 21, 2008 Updated: Apr 1, 2009bomber from grape & gourmet. aroma is very hoppy with hints of pine, pistachio, and fruit and almost sweet. the color is a light amber with very good lacing. flavor is impressive with a great balance of hops and malt with a smooth aftertaste. perfect amount of alcohol. overall, a very quality beer. chokmah33 (115), Bremerton, Washington, USA Feb 21, 2008 Updated: May 10, 2008This is a good IPA..... Right up there with Lost Coast and LaConner in IPA’s from breweries whose name starts with the letter L......
Clear yellow gold color like Apple cider.
Aroma of soap, cut grass, white wine and apples.
Dry and medium astringent like white wine. Warming mouth that seems to melt away.....Very Nice palate.
Flavor fruity up front, then strong piney citrus hops balanced nicely by malt. finshes with pancakes + Jam. DickDunnigan (26), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bomber. Clear mid-orange color. Citrus hop aroma. Great hop flavor of pine, tangerines, and grapefruit. Nice sweet malt backbone complements the hops, great balance. Nothing overwhelms, perfect mouthfeel and great flavor. Good stuff! WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 17, 2008 1/3/08 @ the Tour @ the Brewery with Bikesandbeer, 8th Brewery of the trip, 1st of 3 of the day.
