At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!

What ever hops these guys use I love them. Great piney aroma and flavor are the signature of the Lagunitas hop brews. I always tend to head for the hoppy beers but these guys got it!!! Great balance overall and I love the pine aroma and flavor.

Maximus is a great name for this beer, although when you pour it into a glass it seems harmless, but the taste is strong and flavorful. If you are going to drink the whole six pack make sure you donít have anything to do till late morning-early afternoon the next day because you will feel like you fought a gladiator named Maximus and it wonít be clear whether you won or lost. But even if you wake up in the bed of a married woman youíll know you had a good time.

The beer pours a penny copper amber with a pale white head. The head is mostly lasting. The nose is a strong mix of bitter floral hops and citrus notes. The front of the beer is surprisingly smooth, the middle is where the action begins. The middle of the beer is full of sweet bitter hops the finish is full of floral hoppyness. The after taste is very staying.

Bottle 22 oz. An excellent IPA. Glowing amber/orange color, slight white head, with a slightly sweet hoppy nose. Not too overpowering, but plenty of that nice bitter hoppy flavor. Overall, an above average IPA, that I would recommend if you can find it.

Whoa!!!!!!! This stuff is heavy and a little too heavy for my taste. It wears me down; it tastes good, but be careful cause this will create regrets in the morning. Citrusy hops with unfiltered yeasts, tates sweet and well balanced, but wears down the session drinker.

Wow, this is a damn good IPA. A sniff of the glass is like taking in a evergreen forest and not fresh cut grass like lesser IPA"s. The apearance matches the aroma. Nice copper color with a pretty generous head and nice lacing on the glass. On the palate those hops just hit like a ton of bricks. Just an explosion of flavor in my mouth. My palate is more in tune with the hops, but I do get the sweetness of the malt on the backside to balance out the finish. Iíd rate it higher if the aftertaste lasted longer. Iíll buy this again for sure.

This version varies so much, sometimes even within a single sixer. Sometimes its a true IPA, others its almost got a Barleywine sweetness to it that you have to be ready for. Pours a dark golden orange with a huge floral/citrus nose at first... but sometimes the caramel/brown sugar sweetness completely takes over. This beer would rate much higher if it were more consistent. Still a very good beer that I would recommend to anyone.

Quite a beefy IPA. Something in the Arrogant Bastard realm. It was cloudy amber and somewhat sweet and malty at first... Good hoppiness that finishes very bitter and dry. I like it.

US trip Aug/Sept 2009 - Nice zesty grapefruit, slightly flabby with malt weight but hop bitterness cleans the whole thing up nicely.

Bottle. Pours a good golden amber, with an ok white head. Aroma, hop heavy and tending towards the floral side, with a bit of citrus to balance. Flavor is of good hops, heavy again on the floral with citrus to mellow it a bit. Medium body, light on the tongue, but full in the mouth. Good hop bitter finish. Great IPA.
