At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!

Bottle. (bought on 10/7/04) Paired with Basque Shepherds Cheese. Pours a heavy golden/amber, with some floaters, and a thin but dense creamy white head. Nice stream of bubbles emanates from the beverage. Aroma is pale/caramel malts nice balanced with sweet honey coated citrus hops. Less overwhelming in the hops department that I expected from the beer, but very good nonetheless. Nice sweet ripe hops flavor. Great medium body and high drink ability.

22 oz bottle. Aroma of grapefruit and a little malt. Sweet malty flavor at the beginning, which yields to a grapefruity hoppy bittness with some grassy notes. I liked the flavor balance and complexity Burnt orange color with thin, yet persistant head. Decent lacing on the glass. Nice, unique brew that proves you don’t have to hit people over the head with a bunch of hops to make an enjoyable IPA.

sixer from my man eddie down at express liquor in Pacific Beach.. Pours a delicious honey suckle amber orange with a french vanilla head... the smell is not overly hopped out but rather some sweetness touches my nostrils and coaxed another wiff outta me.. is it vanilla I smell on the back end? First sip is good.. it really reminds me of softer version of the elder, I know the degree is less on this one but that same almost ETOH malty sweetness is infused on the back of each sip (I understand some of you russian river folks might think thats blasphemy) but I write what I feel!! .. You can tell this guy has a powerful engine but hed rather cruise the block and pick up chicks, and hey, what part of that dont ALL of us enjoy!! The hops are there early, some floral but its the malts that settle this DIPA in and make it very enjoyable. Wish it had a little more punch and the lower degree of difficulty does play a part in my rating, but still, this DIPA is like eddie murray, can hit from both sides of the plate and in all directions!!... I like the IPA and quite frankly this DIPA is better...

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2006 Bomber. Awesome piney hop aroma and even better thick, foggy caramel color. A bit fizzy at the end, great balance to the bitterness. Ive been drinking the regular IPA but will search this one out now.

This version varies so much, sometimes even within a single sixer. Sometimes its a true IPA, others its almost got a Barleywine sweetness to it that you have to be ready for. Pours a dark golden orange with a huge floral/citrus nose at first... but sometimes the caramel/brown sugar sweetness completely takes over. This beer would rate much higher if it were more consistent. Still a very good beer that I would recommend to anyone.

Pours crystal clear with a firm head. Aroma is huge cascade, with some hints of crystal malt. Flavor is big hops upfront but with a strong malt backing, lots of crystal, yet fairly light body. Alcohol is apparent, but not aggressive or overwhelming. Definitely one of the top IPAs out there.

12 Oz. Pours a beautiful golden copper with solid fluffy head. Aroma is of mild floral and citrus hops. Taste is very broad and full bodied amazing citrus spicy hops. Finish is clean and crisp with a full bodied malt and hop experience. Excellent stuff!

Damn nice beer. Definitely has the hop thing going on, but with a nice complex malt background as well. Not something Id drink all the time, but a nice IIPA.
