Piney hop and rich malty aroma. Initial flavor of toffee, caramel, toasted malt. The middle is bitter and piney. Fruity and juicy hop finish, with more malt and some hints of alcohol. Not bad. One of the more maltier beers from Lagunita. I drank this twice, once in a bomber and the other in a twelve ounce bottle. The bomber was better IMO. This is probably my favorite beer from them, and I would have no problem buying this again, especially at the price they charge for it. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2004 Bottle. Nice pour, orangey with a thick one finger head. Nose is fruity-notes of apple, corriander, grapes, and hops come through. First taste is easy to describe: hoppy and bitter (YUM). The hops overpower the other flavors, so they are hard to pull out. The best part is the finish-very clean and smooth. Overall a good IPA, very enjoyable. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA

Not very impressive visually but the nose was strong hops, grapefruit, alcohol. Great mouthfeel. Rich and thick. Flavor had kick to it. Hops bitterness in a good way. Fruity. Grapefruit juicy. Kick ass IPA. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Sampled at Sexual Chocolate Day. I’d had this beer previously but hadn’t enjoyed it this much. A very big floral nose gives a strong first impression. The mouthfeel is very thick and satisfying, abetted by the creamy head. Nice zingy hops dominate, with some almost peppery sharpness in there. Good stuff. sunevdj (1790), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2006 22 ounce bottle from BeerandBlues2. Poured into my Duvel tulip. Poured on the lighter side of copper with a billowing, resinous, slightly darker than white head. Very nice lacing. Gobs and gobs of pine and citrus in the aroma. If you get your nose deep enough you get friggin’ Pine-Sol. The flavor is pretty underwhelming. Not really imperial at all. Yeah there’s citrus and pine and its a great drink, just not what I look for. I guess its the price you pay for being a style guy. The palate is fine. Sweet and resinous. I’d really drink this any time, but its not imperial.
