The aroma is just sweet, tantalizing, goodness that embodies all the an IPA should offer, The hop presence is strong, but not too strong, and it hits the pallate like a gentle rolling cascade of goodness. I could swim in this beer. a10555 (125), West Chester, Ohio, USA

Who cares how it smells, what color it is and all that jazz. Bottom Line, this beer Rocks! It is truly the gladiator of IPAs in my opinion... Maximus, Maximus, Maximus....Rose petals fall around the 6 pack, and the king...gives the thumbs up! cathcacr (598), Portland, Oregon, USA

Definitely better than the Ruination IPA I had the other night, which is 4.3-4.4 quality. Lagunitas has this hop thing down just about as well as Stone. maxhits (172), Pico Rivera, California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 6, 2002 A bitter, sappy green pine underpining and a resinous, deep hop flower aroma. Slightly chalky, dusty and dry; although high in alcohol content, this ale is easy to gulp. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

The aroma is full of pine, grapefruit, and oranges. I catch a little perfume in there as well. This wasnt as BIG as some IPAs Ive had which isnt always bad. A well balanced beer with more grapefruit and oranges showing up in the flavor. The finish was quite bitter. Top notch IIPA in my book. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 15, 2006 Very dark cloudy orange, not real hoppy aroma. Head is very dry and hoppy. The beer is also excellently dry and hoppy, but smooth in the finish to not kill your taste buds. Great. lunaticharness (183), Roseville, Michigan, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 20, 2006 Updated: May 13, 2007Pours a clear orange color with a steady big head: I love it. The smell is worth drooling over: some fresh flowers, orange, tangerine and other citric fruits. Flavor is mostly in line with the hop aroma, soft flower flavor, but when I say that it doesn’t give this beer justice. Great lacing down the glass. There’s something about this beer that makes "MAXIMUS" appropriate.
