This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas. It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut...

Pale deep gold body with a fluffy white head. The aroma is a nice balance of sweet, light caramel malt American hops, and a touch of bread. The flavor is pretty much the same and finishes crisp and balanced as well. Seems like they know what they’re doing.

Aroma: flowers, light fruits. Appearance: clear gold, massive, frothy, white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: bitters continue, some malts in the background. Overall: OK APA, but nothing too special. Pint at Big Brew, Morristown.

"an earthy example of a bohemian pils. clean grassy aroma and flavor. with a nice malt strain in there as well. goes down smooth and easy. solid, but not a standout."

Hmm, dare I say a touch overrated? Pretty average pour & aroma w/ decent flavor & a good mouthfeel. The hop presence is there throughout but the beer finishes refreshing & light. It’s certainly solid by I’m not sure that it’s great!

Bottle from SB. Pours one finger of head. Nose and taste is very balanced, hoppy but not too much, and not too thin body. A great APA!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours golden. Medium amount of white head. Lemon and peach nose. Almost watery mouth feel. Above medium and stingy carbonation. Pine and citrus flavour. Some seltzers. Quite bitter.

Draft at the Chicago taproom. Arrives in their standard Mason jar with just a few flecks of foam over a slightly brassy yellow body. Light toasty malt smell is hard to pick out after using the strong soap in the restroom, which I pointed out to the staff. Maintains a malty forefront with hops up the back side. No fancy hops, just the basic bitter, slight edge of grapefruit (Summit?). Some like spends to the back of my palate after munching on the free bowl of peanuts. Sharp finish.

12oz bottle from 5e Mondial de la Bière. Pours with a beautifully thick head for such a lean, crisp beer. Floral, coniferous aroma with late grapefruit pith and exotic berry peel (kumquat, physalis). Pretty resinous for a mere PA, while being lean and crisp in body. Prefer APA a bit creamier, maltier (Dale’s), but this is obviously without flaw.

On tap poured into a mason jar (shame on you Lagunitas Chicago tap room!). Being in a mason jar, I didn’t expect much as far as aroma, and I was correct. There are hints of bread, grapefruit peel and grain ... but a mason jar is a terrible way to display the aromas. It pours a clean orange amber color with a light effervescence and a white, creamy head that retains a thick ring and a nearly solid soft surface. A good amount of lace is left on the jar. The taste is a medium dry bitter and a medium light sweet. The slick texture has a creamy carbonation and a medium body. Notes of pine, resin, grass, citrus peel and a light bread crust are noted on the mouth and it finishes dry and crisp with a light, lingering grapefruit bitter and resin aftertaste.
