COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas. It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut...

This was mis - entered under the old Dogtown in August 2010. Sue me. I liked this probably way more than I should have, but it really hit the spot when I tried it. Clean and crisp, thinnish bodied, big hop nose and flavor moderate ABV (well high end of moderate) lots of grapefruit hop flavors. Good stuff.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Bottled on April 6, 2010 according to the Julian date code printed on the bottle. Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger white foamy head. Nice lacing. Smell: Grapefruit and pine from the hops with caramel malt. Nicely balanced. Taste: Grapefruit up front followed by mild hints bread and caramel malt in the middle then pine and lemon rind at the finish. Aftertaste is bitter with just a hint of sweet citrus. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Goes down very smooth. Drinkability: Excellent drinkability. You could knock back several of these with no problem. Overall: Excellent beer overall. I was concerned about reviewing this since it was not as fresh as I would like but it really held up well. This seems like a borderline Pale Ale/India Pale Ale. I would rate it highly in either category. I would definitely recommend this beer.

12 oz. bottle, pours clear copper with a white head. Aroma of resinous hops, caramel and pine. Flavour is very hop-heavy for a pale ale, with strong, but balanced resinous hops, sweet caramel and pine. Exceeded the expectations - seemed closer to an IPA.

Pours a nice dirty orange copper with a white sticky head. Aroma is resiny hops, malt, water. Flavor is citrusy resiny bitter hops, crisp grassy finish. Not too shabby of a Pale ale. Lots of bite, almost worth of the title IPA.

Bottle: Pours a clear dark golden. Aroma of citrus hops and pine hops and hops. Flavor is very similar. Pretty one dimensional. Surprised it is not an IPA.

12oz. bottle, not sure of the age since it’s not dated in any way. Fruity, leafy hop aroma, very lightly toasty and malty with notes of tangerine, grapefruit and honey. Somewhat cloudy pale amber color, head fizzes away to nearly nothing. Flavor is primarily hoppy, with a fairly strong amount of bitterness throughout, especially for the style, accented by very faintly sweet, toasty malts here and there, these largely overcome by the resinous, lightly citric hop qualities, and finishing quite dry. Palate is sharp and very low in carbonation, body is light-medium. Passable, certainly, but nothing to interest me overly much, as balance is pretty far out of whack and the feel is pretty flat.

Amber color. Strong hop presence for a pale ale, but still maintains a good balance.

Bottle. A golden color with a white head. A nice citrus and malty aroma. Well balanced and with enough hops to make it interesting and a nice lightly bitter grassy finish.

pours light amber with a soft head. On the nose it is fairly hoppedthere is a vegetal feel to it that I can’t quite pin point maybe some seed resin kinda thing. there is some corn kernels in the nose as well. on the palate it drinks heavy for its category. Bitter and green hops are blended nicely with a few malted notes in there. it has a kind of cracked pepper finish to it. It has a fast finish but there is plenty of flavour there. it is a good brew, amazing considering it is a pale ale. good stuff!
